I noticed your in N.C. I have a Fed5 (not for sale) Brand new in box from a seller in USA. Paid less than $20.00 with shipping & everything. Lucky I was!
It's a good camera. The only drawbacks: No strap lugs and its a heavy bugger. I live in Lexington N.C. If your near by you are welcome to see it and my Fed 2 and Zorki 2c and get an idea before you buy anything. Just let me know.
Your profile states that you are an exclusive Nikon user. Nikon has a RF but they aren't cheap. I'm only guessing but I believe you would be much happier going for a Voightlander or a M series Leica.

I will profit a lot if you could detail this statement, as I have no fashion prejudice at all towards the 5 series.

I think the Fed-2 is the most reliable fsu rangefinder, because it has such a simple design, but with the Fed-5 series you get slow speeds and the best lens (Industar-61l/d). Their other great advantage is that there are plenty of nearly new, or unused axamples around, because they continued making them in large numbers when demand switched to SLR cameras in the 1980s. You can get one with a pristine lens and shutter curtains that have not deteriorated, very cheaply. Shutter speeds are likely to be reasonably accurate and problems with lens registration are unlikely, so performance should be excellent.
The only snag is the heavy, clumsy body that lacks strap lugs

compared to the Zorki 4K, the Fed 5 has a rugged film advance mechanism with no clutch slipping that i have experianced on the 4k.(i opend both cameras up for vf cleaning).ruben said:I will profit a lot if you could detail this statement, as I have no fashion prejudice at all towards the 5 series.

no film spacing issues or torn shutter curtain ribbons as on the Kiev.
the shutter speed dial is easy to turn and set at all speeds, something that can be difficult on the Zorki 4 and 4k, the slow shutter speeds are more reliable than on the Z4.
the Fed rf can go out of alignment more often, but it is simple to recalibrate for vert. and horizontal without taking the top off like on the Z4 (for the vertical rf alignment).
using blue Loctite solves later rf problems on the Fed 5.

GB,Thanks so much for the invite. Even if I don't get down to check out your Feds
and Zorki before I make my purchase, would still like to meet sometimes in the future. I'm close by, I live in High Point.
