Hi all,
At this link to the "bay" a seller has included what looks like some pages from a service manual describing Zorki, Fed, Leica curtain replacement. Interesting line drawings and rough English included. This could be worth checking out as it seems to add some info. that I hadn't seen before. http://cgi.ebay.com/The-set-of-curt...3QQihZ010QQcategoryZ15234QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
No connection to the seller "blyatnikov". Scroll down the auction info. to see the procedure.

PS I couldn't get the link to function, but the item number is there, so you can still find the info. If someone knows how to set the link up, feel free to fix this post or repost if you want to.

Hello,
Your link is working and the info is quite nice, drawings are almost small works of art, thanks for it.
I have copied and edited the pages in Word format to avoid loosing the info when the ebay page expires.

Hello, can this pair of curtains fix a FED / Zorki 1 series? Thanks.

Looks like that is what he is saying.
I think the earlier curtains were narrower but the early bodies will still accept the later curtains.

Yes these curtains should. Many FED-1 are found with this type of shutter curtains, probably as they were repaired when they were in use, or perhaps even right before they were sold on eBay.
But there will be some differences. The shutter will fire with more noise- the original shutters used laths with part of the shutter fabric wrapped around it.
The 'replacements' use crimped metal laths. The exposed metal will tend to literally bang with each other and the crate itself as the blinds end their traverse, resulting in more noise.
Also, I've observed that these curtains can have the tendency to make winding harder. I've tried to replace old curtains in a couple of old FED with the crimped lath types, and there was indeed a significant increase in winding effort. Removing these from one of the cameras and restoring the old wrap-around laths (with new shutter cloth and straps) made this camera's shutter fire more quietly and wind relatively lighter than it did with the crimped lath shutters.

Hey, thanks for the advise. My FED 1 is experiencing multiple pinholes due to the rubberised cloth cracking. Painting doesn't seem to work, so I guess I have to change the shutter curtain itself.

Patching will only work if the holes are really tiny and few and not close to each other. A shutter which is really dry will crack and have many holes- an indication that replacement is in order. Painting, when done on a greater extent, will make the shutter blind heavier and thicker. and will introduce potential problems in the shutter's movement.
