Hi,
Since my previous post I've been to the local one hour lab I use. It's in a corner of a supermarket and the best for miles around. As I walked towards it I could see a sign on the counter with the word "CLOSED" very clearly and got worried.
When I got there the sign said something to the effect that it would be closed one day next week for new equipment to be installed and staff training. So I guess they are happy to make a long term investment in us...

Digital is becoming more at risk daily....
Digital is becoming more at risk daily....
The biggest risk to digital at this time, and worsening are:
Iran with nuclear weapons
The fall of Pakistan, and the subsequent dissemination of their nuclear warheads into terrorist hands
North Korea, unlimited nuclear reasons
The continued "black market" sale of Russia's nuclear arsenal to the highest bidders.
Lack of proper protections to keep the worldwide nuclear arsenals (Including US) from falling into the wrong hands, where some might say they are in the wrong hands now anyway.
The manifestation of world wide Electro Magnetic Pulses when some, if not many of these weapons are detonated.
If you are not still shooting some film, you will not only lose the use of your camera's and computers, but also the archives of your images that are now on magnetic media.
Ponder that, and vote accordingly. Involve yourselves less in photography and more in important issues of the world.

Bit of a tangent there kuzano, I'd be more inclined to wonder if I can see when my eyes have been boiled before I worry about digital anarchy......

There'll be bigger problems than losing digital files in that event, resulting in motivations greater than doing photography. But I hope I'm wrong.

I think film cameras are safe. Yes, new photographers tend to go digital, but we shoot film because we feel there's a benefit, rather than for any trend.
Besides, personally speaking, I've done the digital bit, so don't suffer from the 'going digital' quandary that people found themselves in at the start of the digital era.

I forgot to mention that if you all want to move the risk I mentioned forward in time, Vote for Romney. The man (term used loosely), is chomping at the bit to go at Iran and the Middle East. I really think it's his hidden plan for resolving the unemployment problem. Deploy the unemployed, or make jobs vacant, to the MidEast.
I've wondered what level of military service is present for Mitt Romney and his sons, and when he takes the country to war, whether his sons will be at risk for service in the armed forces. They are all about the ages of National Guardsmen who have been jerked out of their lives and deployed to the Mid East by the Republican Military Industrial Complex and administration.

Hi,
I wonder what makes you think that "their" politicians are any better than "ours" and I'll add that, imo, they all come out of the same box but are painted different colours and some are bolder than others, or luckier.
Luckily I have some say in photography, to mis-quote Voltaire badly.

where? I'd really like to know 'cause I want an F2
decent looking F2 bodies (sans lens) go for significantly more than that on eBay over here in the UK.
In fact I just had a look at completed deals at eBay.com and couldn't see any F2 with lens for that sort of money either.

If film's continued existence was dependent upon one-dimensional decision making (such as the price of getting film processed) then it would have been dead for the past 10 years.
What the digital doomsayers forget is that some of us actually LIKE using film and that processing negatives ourselves is FUN and not very expensive in the great scheme of things.
I use digital (Nikon D700 and Lumix LX3) and digital output is great. I have no problem with it. However, I PREFER using film. It's that simple - and I am not alone. There's a staggering amount of film users worldwide and I really don't see why digital only users need to get so evangelical about the situation. Few film users would try to persuade digital photograpers to convert to film - but there's a seemingly never-ending stream of "why haven't you gone digital" questions on photo forums.

You meant F + lens less than $100 ... your first post suggests F2/F3 can be got less than $100, which is what I was surprised about, but that's not what you're saying?
Unfortunately buying from the US can be less of a bargain than it first appears once you take insured shipping into account, plus the possibility of a ~30% VAT and Import Duty being slapped on at the UK border.
