Hi guys,

Havent shot film in a long while but want to give it another shot. I really don't even know whats still available. I have a G2 and lenses that I tried to sell but there were no takers so I will take it to Germany for a few weeks. Just looking to shoot both BW and color of architecture 90% of which will be during day with some long exposures thrown in at night of illuminated buildings. What would be my best film choices in terms of image quality? Really looking to get the best image quality possible. Any ideas?? Thanks so much.

You'll get a lot of opinions here in no time. For me, the old standby's are still darn good- FP4+ and HP5+ are easy travelers, and B&W films are about the same as they were a few years ago. Most of the big guns are still around- Ilford, Fuji, Kodak, but Agfa is gone, and Forte just left the market too. Kodak has only one line for B&W film manufacture now, so the films are slightly different. It's the color films that will likely be most different to you- I'm still working through my stash of Agfa Ultra100.

Not having shot film for a while, are you thinking about self developing? or mini-lab? I don't know about where you live, but silver-based bw development at the pro lab is quite expensive where I live.

If you don't want to self-develop, I'd consider Ilford XP2 for black and white and Kodak High-Definition for color. Both can be turned in at mini-lab and the result is quite good.
