Thanks for confirming that about Melbourne Domestic, Marty. That's bad news.
With Melbourne though there are so many film developing and scanning shops, and I go down every 2 months on average, that I drop my film into one of the shops, get the scans by DropBox, and pick up my negs a few weeks later.

I dropped my film with a friend who luckily was still outside, who will bring it later by car. I’ll have to figure some thing out. Thanks for confirming that about Melbourne Domestic, Marty. That's bad news.

Marty, I suppose you could always mail the undeveloped film home, before you fly out. Although having said that I notice they have closed more and more post offices in the city. Time was Australian airports used to have post offices in them. I haven't noticed them lately. I'm sure they're all gone.

There isn’t even a post box at Melbourne airport anymore. Nearest is at Dawson and Spring Sts Tullamarine. I keep pre-paid mailers in my carry on, but it does suck that now you need to get a ride to send anything off.Marty, I suppose you could always mail the undeveloped film home, before you fly out. Can confirm that Melbourne Domestic Airport has converted to all CT scanners. Hand inspection was refused when I went through.
Next time around, share this with the inspection officer: Security & screening:
Screening procedures for film canisters with and without sealed packaging.
Sealed packaging -film canisters will be required to be removed from box by passenger, presented to ISS for visual inspection and Explosive Trace Detector (ETD) of canister with LID ON.
Film canisters not in sealed packing - regardless if processed/or unprocessed will require visual inspection and ETD of canister with LID OFF.
Note: Cameras with film, are subject to primary screening via x-ray, unless passenger opts to remove film for secondary screening.

Yes, I tried to argue, but the operator didn’t have very good English and there was an easy fix. I have never found it straightforward to get hand inspection in Australia even though all the airports all have operating rules that say they should offer hand inspection. All Australian airports also have legislation and overriding rules giving security staff ultimate discretion, including over normal operating rules, which can be problematic.Next time around, share this with the inspection officer: Security & screening:

Stockholm Arlanda in Sweden has also bought these CT-scanners, but i have been lucky to got my 120-films handchecked the two times i have been flying with film.
Before they bought these CT-scanners they refused to handcheck my film.
I have traveled many times to African countries like Ethiopia, Rwanda and to Zambia, and they have always handchecked my films.
Also in Thailand and the Philippines there have not been any problem.
But i feel stressed every time i ask for a handcheck.
