Does anyone know how readily available film is in South India (Madras, Cochin, Bangalore ...)? Will I be able to find things like Ektra or Portra there? Also, can anyone recommend labs in Madras to process film?

It will probably be impossible to find Ektar or Portra. Only the common "consumer" films are readily available: Kodak 100, 200 and 400; Fuji 100; and so on. Reala is to be had in a very few places.
It may be useful to know that Madras is now called Chennai.

GASitis.. finally cured?
It's next to impossible, as Mukul mentioned, to find those films in South India. If you want Reala 100, and coming to Bangalore, I have some 5 rolls left over.
GK Vale does an OK job in Bangalore for developing. Prabhu Digital (Brigade Rd) also does a good job, and handles Kodak BWCN films well. PM me know if you want more info or want to meet up if you are in town.
