had a bit of trouble loading the film but after trimming a bit off the end to make the loading end thinner it loads fine. it will quite happily take aprox 10 photos before eventually jamming. the film wind lever becomes very stiff and then with a bit of force the sprocket tare the film
has anyone else experienced this?
is there a solution or is there something wrong with the camera?
i used a 36/800 fuji film if that makes any odds?

I just saw this message.

If the film is tearing, then it might be caused by the film not feeding correctly out of the cartridge.

First, without any film, see if the rewind knob spins freely in either direction. There should be no resistance.

Next, try this with a junk roll. Load the film normally. Then reverse wind the film to give it plenty of slack in the cartridge. See if the film crank moves smoothly. Keep going until the rewind knob begins to turn. Does the film-advance action feel tighter? It should -- but only by a small amount.

Make sure that you're not impeding the movement of the rewind knob when you're pushing down on that lever.

There's also the chance that you just had a bad roll of film.

I just tried a roll of Fuji in the Taxona, and I think that you have possibly identified the problem. The felt strip on the Fuji film is too small to allow the film to feed smoothly out of the cartridge, and it gets hung up, causing the sprockets to tear the film.
