My old bottle opener USED to be quicker, but since Kodak has been insisting on making their cartridges tank-proof, I've switched to a commercial retreiver. Works every time, but sometiomes I need 3 or 4 tries...

So what happens if you are stuck in the middle of nowhere and have just wound the leader into the cassette?
But it is a pretty good party trick.
Why do you need the leader out if you are in the middle of nowhere?

I have had an automatic camera rewind my film DIRECTLY after I loaded it, so this party trick would have been useful then.

I keep a couple of lengths of Dymo label tape in my bags for those unexpected film leader emergencies. I was taught that trick about thirty years ago, and it always works like a champ.

Its an old trick. My photo teacher back in college showed us this one for when we failed to leave the leader out after switching mid roll. worked most of the time. Of course he only showed us since most of us only had one camera. He rarely, if ever had to do it since he generally carried two. Which was the moral of the story.. carry two cameras and you wont have to lick film...

I usually rip a strip off a scrap 6x4 inch print and do the same thing.
