I don't think so. I was kidding. The $5 thriftstore Leica will remain an urban legend.
Wasn't there someone here who has found one? Some time ago?

This "great cameras for cheap" story is getting attention, per an article in the Economist.
In fact, analogue cameras generally are enjoying something of a revival. In part, this is due to the plethora of old film cameras that can now be had for a song on eBay and elsewhere. Over the past decade, professional as well as amateur photographers have flooded the second-hand market with analogue cameras in excellent condition as they traded up to ever-more exotic digital models.
This is actually a pretty good article. Author had an uncle who bequeathed him a Rolleiflex TLR.

-My best find was a thrift store Contax IIIA, 50mm, 35mm with finder.
-The second best, so far, was my Nikon FE c/w 55mm macro same store.
-Third has to be 2 Nikon FE bodies from Henrys in Toronto listed as parts cameras. They were really nice once they had new batteries.
-The best deals I didn't take home were two reasonably nice Spotmatics, 2 for $5.00.

Not quite as nice a find as the Canon IVF kit that I picked up for $60 last week, but not too bad. I can use the lenses on my FTBn when I actually want to have to think about what I am doing, I suppose.

...what a thing of beauty and an incredible find! How are its functions, e.g., shutter speeds, focusing, film travel? I would hope that they are equally as flawless.

The sad thing is that film gear has become worth so little that it's not even worth the cost of shipping. I've stopped using film completely, and I'm about to throw a bunch of working film gear away because folks won't even pay shipping for it.

OK, I suspect it can't quite be that bad, unless we're talking about no-name brands in rough shape.
What about posting an ad in the "Want to Trade" classifieds? I thought there was also a freebie thread around here at some point. Well, good luck with it.

I, too, am surprised at this. Not economical to repair... Not even worth paying someone to fix the light seals... Yes, I have those cameras and will eventually toss them.

Well you should at least put up a list so us GASaholics can decide if we want to pay shipping...

Well, I've got a best offer ad in the classified now on some Olympus gear. Haven't had a single offer. I've also got some Nikon stuff, same Canon stuff, etc. I know it's SLR gear, but...still. lol

I put up a ton of Konica SLR stuff for trade a while back. Not a peep. I didn't rule any trades out—film, whatever. That's not to say that it's a universal condition, but RFF members seem to be fairly saturated now.

No respect. At least take them to the Goodwill.

They don't burn worth a flip. Can't even roast marshmallows on them.
Don't think they will blend, either. A Nikon F3 would do a job on your blender!
