I just got a 400' roll of Eastman Double X and put my first roll through the R4A this afternoon. The film is rated ISO 250, so I set the ISO dial on the R4A to the first mark after 200 (there are two between 200 and 400).

Then I read in the R4A instruction manual (p. 35) "Make sure to set film speed exactly at the detent, not in between, otherwise proper shutter speeeds will not be shown in the viewfinder".

By setting the ISO at the first mark after 200, what EI did I shoot the film at? 😕 What would be the ISO of the second mark between 200 and 400? 😕

The film will be correctly exposed if the shutter was set to 'A'.

It will be slightly off if you were using, and trusting, the meter display in the viewfinder.

You did exactly the right thing. I've been shooting Double XX (250) in an R3M and R4M lately, with the ISO dial set on the 1st of the two notches between 200 and 400. The 2nd notch is 320. For years I shot Fuji Reala at one notch below 100 (ISO 80) to overexpose slightly.

Thanks, everybody. The instruction manual confused me. @_@ Good to have that cleared up!

Can't wait to get the Double X developed and see!
I also got a 400' roll of eastman colour motion picture film (250D), too!
