I'm looking for B&W flim suggestions. I currently shoot lots of Neopan 400 and 1600. I'm looking for a low fuss 25/50/100 range film. By low fuss I mean no special developers, something I can send to A&I or the like. And before you suggest it, I really don't like C-41 B&W film, it looks wierd, and I find it comes back with strange tints (green, purple, blue). Please give me some suggestions and reasons for your pick! Thanks

Well, if you like Neopan - Acros is a natural choice. As for 25/50, I settled on Adox CMS 25 simply because it walks all over anything else in 35mm format when it comes to resolution. But you have to use Adotech to develop it, so I guess you will have to pass on that one. My favourite before I discovered Adox, was Agfa APX25 - but good luck on finding that one. The natural place to start would be Ilford Pan-F.

Hello:

Acros 100 and FP4+ may suit you. PanF if you like "silver rich" images and expect to make careful exposures. Of the three, FP4 is the most tolerant emulsion IMHO.

Another vote for FP4+ because has good tonality, exposure latitude, and is less tolerant of exposure/development errors. It is however, more grainy than Acros, at least in D-76.

Ok, thanks for the suggestions, I'm thinking I'll get 2 rolls eack of Pan F, Acros, and FP4+ and some mailers and see which I like best.

If you like Neopan 400 you'll like Efke 25- very similar highlights (in ID-11 1:1 anyway). I love how you can tease more and more detail out of the highlights with both of these.

Hehe, I got quite a sampler going. I'll have to find a reason to shoot a bunch at once, maybe I'll plan a trip to help me figure out what slow film I like, someplace warm :)
