Films Stills & corresponding color palettes

Pretty bogus though, as he'll hardly have worked with original negatives or the original print instructions from the first run. Modern DVDs are, at the very best, products of a digital remastering to modern taste (with some fading of the masters thrown in) - many are even more distant from the original regarding their colouring.

I wondered about his method:
"I piece together the general palette from that and other colors I think are prominent or worth including from the still"

So we have a colour palette from a still selected as 'worth including'?
How do you go about that selection? What is worth including?
I love old film and have a few stills around, I'm not sure about the value of colour selection.
He'd be better served taking a film (say south pacific) and looking at the use of colour to show or back up emotional content.

All in all I'm not convinced in the value of the exercise.
