filter for 43 BP 50 1.4 asph

I bought a used black paint 50 asph special edition that uses 43 filters. I bought a hoya filter, but the outside is just ever so slightly too thick to allow mounting the hood. I have a 43 IR filter from leica that has a groove so that the hood attaches to the filter, not the lens.

If anyone has experience with this lens, are there other filter brands that fit with the hood, or do I need to go with Leica filters?

Nobody at Leica expects that anybody would actually USE one of those black paint special edition aspheric lenses, hence filter and hood compatability aren't exactly high priority to the designers.

Modern filters - even Leica - generally have a rim that is too thick to let the old style hood slip on all the way. The older Leica filter with a thinner rim will work.
I don't know about other brands of modern thin-rim filters. They might work since they are thin due to omission of the front threads. The trick is going to be finding a thin-rim filter in 43mm size.
What kind of filter are you looking for? UV? It looks like Tiffen makes a 43mm UV "available for wide angle" which to me means thin-rim.

I have the same problem with mine.
But I found that I can drop the filter into the hood from the front, and then screw everything tight onto the lens.

It is not supposed to be done so, but it works and it is very firm.

I would contact Don Goldberg (DAG). I purchased a thin rim Leica 43mm from him a while back and I believe he has more of them. The older thin 43s are Silver if this makes a difference, but it will definitely work with the Summilux Hood.

Thanks for the tips. I want to use #8 and #11 filters. I will probably keep looking for the thin ones and try the tip of putting the current filters in the hood or use no hood otherwise.

When I first got my 50 Lux BP, I searched for two of the black ring slim E43 Leica filters, one as primary, one backup. They work perfect with the hood.

Just be patient, I found one for $35 and the next for $50, it's worth it to have it work right.

I had the same problem with my 50/1.4 S'lux .. remedied by dismantling the Hoya filter (just release the circlip and the glass drops out) and then rubbing the filter mount down to a thinner size using a piece of abrasive paper stuck onto a piece of wood . After slimming it down I "painted it" with a Staedtler permanent black marker pen and then slipped the glass back in and secured it with the circlip. The hood fits fine now.

The hood and filter combination on the 50 Summilux is one of those Leica quirks. You either have to use one of the older thin rim filters made especially for the lens/hood combination or a newer ( and hard to find ) 13206 filter which has a lip built in to the filter rim that the clip-on hood grips on to. The older chrome thin has the older glass/coatings, kind of a step back from the modern ASPH coatings, but I know one person the got a 43mm B&W UV filter and switched the glass out to a thin filter rim and it worked.

Part of the issue is that the thread pitch on this lens is the same as the old pre-ASPH 50 Summilux E43 thread pitch - 0.5mm (modern filters use a thread pitch of 0.75mm). For some reason Hoya 0.75mm filters fit this lens as well as the older ones, but not all modern filters do. I think Heliopan make a slim 43mm filter, but I have not read of anyone who has used one on this lens.

I don't have this problem because I don't like the Leica hood - it remains unused. I have a B+W 43mm on the front of mine (it fits properly) and a small 43mm screw-in hood from Cameraquest. You don't really need a hood with this lens anyway and mine is just for protection. Pic below.
