I would be very interesting to hear about experience in using filters for b&w photography. Actually I was very exciting to find how this guy, Ronald Wells, use the orange filter - http://www.mamiya7.com/document.php?id=446&full=1
For my opinion, it turns simple and quite enough landscape to more dramatic picture.
Is it something special in using filters with rangefinders?
Does somebody use another filters?
Thanks.

Ansel Adam's "The Negative" does a very good job of describing the effects of various B+W filters. Definately a 'must read'.

I use a K2 and X0. The former for landscapes, the latter for portraits (or if I want landscaps with lightened foilage). For a darker sky, you could use an orange / red filter, but they also increase contrast and affect how foilage is rendered. You may or may not like the effect. With the K2 / X0, I simply burn in the sky. Also, the K2 / X0 only take 1 stop. Going orange / red means more loss.... If you hand-hold like me, with lower speed films this becomes an issue.

Definately get multicoated (e.g. Hoya HMC). I ordered mine from http://stores.ebay.com/Bens-Specialist_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQftidZ2QQtZkm with good luck. Much cheaper than going local.
