I have several 55mm filters that I would like to use with 39mm or 46mm filter thread lenses. Is a Heliopan 55/46 or 55/39 thread-adapter worth it over these kits? I’ve red something about vignetting on wide-angle lenses...

One option is individual step-up rings rather than a kit as pictured....
As long as you are using a filter that's larger than required by your lens (via a step up ring) you shouldn't have any vignetting problem. Edit: although stacking multiple filters / step-up rings (as in the kit pictured) may be an issue. A single step-up ring or two as below should not be a problem.
If you are using a rangefinder you don't want to block too much of the finder.

I suspect the low cost adapter would work just as well as the Heliopan (expensive?) adapter would. The only way to know about vignetting is to try it. The filters should not vignette but the adapter may. Others here may know more than I do. Good Luck. Joe

from what I've read and recall, it is better to have the filter closer to the glass, it also minimizes the chance of light reflecting internally between the filter and front lens.
I would just buy a dedicated 39-55 and 46-55 filter, they are not expensive.

No, there's also hoodcalc.xls (Google it). It's intended to calculate lens hoods, can of course be used to calculate if anything would vignette, as long as you know the dimensions.

The Heliopan filters and adapters are made of brass (rather than the cheaper steel on most other brands), and therefore are much less likely to "lock up"

Thank you everyone. The Kenko rings sound like a good option that I didn’t know about. The Heliopan is more expensive but made of brass, as Mike has said.
It is also bigger than the Kenko so that the filter will be further from the lense. Would it be more prone to vignetting on wide-angle lenses?

Actually I can’t find Kenko adapters for leica elmar (39-->55) and zeiss sonnar (46-->55) :/

Does anyone know what size is the filter threat on these Elmars?
