Just acquired a Nikkor 3.5cm f2.5 LTM lens but unfortunately it came without caps, front or rear. I've got a generic LTM rear cap that works, but I was wondering if anyone know what size the front cap, or front filter thread is on this lens?

Its the oddball 34.5 mm filter size for screw-in filters on the LTM version of this lens.

The thread-mount version takes 34.5mm screw-in filters. Hard to find. The Nikon 34.5mm snap-on lens cap would be the same as several of the EL-Nikkor enlarging lenses take, so may be easier to find.

Tim, check this thread (no pun intended):

Looks like 43mm with the older 0.50mm pitch.
EDIT: Looks like two posters above (who are faster and more knowledgeable than me) note 34.5mm for the LTM version. Do the LTM and Nikon S-mount lenses have different front filter thread sizes?

I use 36mm push-on filters for my Nikkor 3.5 cm /2.5 LTM lens.
You can use a Kodak or Tiffen Series VI adapter and the Series VI filters, easily available on Eb@y.
Or for a more pricey option try a Leitz SOOGZ 36mm clamp on adapter to your lens barrel end and this allows you to use the standard 39mm thread filters size so typical of filter sizes used on Leica lenses .

Yup, the LTM version of this Nikkor lens uses the oddball 34.5 mm filter size.

Here is what I found worked for my "new to me" Nikkor 3.5cm f2.5 LTM lens. Still no luck with filters, but at B&H I found this front lens cap, which fits nicely:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/157529-REG/Schneider_91_030245_36mm_Push_On_Lens_Cap.html
And this rear M39 threaded lens cap:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1419099-REG/fotodiox_cap_rear_m39_slvr_premium_metal_rear_lens.html**
**Just a word of caution on the rear lens cap, B&H and Fotodiox did some kind of weird thing and some of the Fotodiox M39 items are not what is pictured on the B&H site. This was a real issue with the M39 body caps they make, the design is totally different (and doesn't work on a Barnack) from what the web site shows. The rear cap I currently have was a bought a couple years ago, and it's perfect. Just make sure you keep the receipt until you get the item and make sure it fits and does what you need.
Hope this is helpful. I'm happy to now have a front and rear cap for this little lens.

Be on the look out for an Ednalite 604 series VI adapter...these screw in to that 34.5 mm dia. thread of that Nikkor lens and you can use series VI filters and even thin 40.5 filters with threads will fit in the series VI adapter.
In a pinch any Kodak or Tiffen or Endnalite snap on series VI adapter of a 35 or 36 mm snap on diameter can be used, these are not rare on that auction site.
* EDIT... you may be in luck : https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ednalite-S...ens-Adapter-with-Retaining-Ring-/401748102813

Thanks for the heads up. I purchased that, we'll see how well it works when it arrives in a couple weeks.

It should work good if the threads are not mucked up.
I got that exact Ednalite 604 one on my minty Nikkor 3.5 cm f2.5 in LTM lens...the other more used looking version of that Nikkor lens uses a snap on filter.

Thanks again for the heads up. The Ednalite 604 arrived today and it fit perfectly to my Nikkor 3.5cm f2.5. Dug up my Kodak Series VI red and yellow filter and now I'm all set.
Does anyone know if the Nikkor 2.8cm f3.5 LTM lens has the same front as the 3.5 f2.5? In other words, would the 36mm front lens cap and the Ednalite 604 work with the 2.8cm f3.5 as well?
The pictures I've seen of that lens makes it look identical, but I've never actually seen one of those lenses in person.

yes, same filter size for the LTM 28mm and 35mm Nikkors.
The 28mm Nikkor in LTM is not very common, as a lens. I seen a 25mm Nikkor in LTM at a camera show in the 1990s but never a 28mm for some reason.
One would think the 28mm lens would have been more common.

You are welcome, it was a great fluke to see an Ednalite 604 adapter on that auction site, as they are not that common when compared to other series 6 adapter sizes...you lucked out.
All the best.
