Filters for B&W?

I'm not sure why a polarization filter would not be useful on any lens. What it does isn't made redundant by a high quality lens.

That's a good question, Bill. Polarizers don't reduce image quality if they're good quality (just like any other filter). I don't see why it couldn't be used on a 'quality lens' either.

The real issue is that the OP is using a Leica, and I assume he means a rangefinder, not one of their SLRs, which would make using a polarizer hard since you cant see through the lens to adjust its strength.

With a rangefinder I use two identical polarizers, one for the lens, and one to look through to determine the setting. When the sky is a bit hazy, I use an orange or red filter to keep the sky from coming out white. This was taken with an orange filter using XP2.
