Can the built-in hood from the CV Color-Skopar 35/2.5 be removed? I want to start using filters with this lens and I'm wondering how the filters work with the hood. Do they thread directly into the hood? How do you get the filters out again?

Sorry if these seem like mundane questions. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Yes, the round hood is removeable. To use filters unscrew the hood, screw in the filter and re-attach the hood. To get the filter out unscrew the hood, unscrew the filter and re-attach hood. That's it 🙂

Thank you both for the tips. I tried to unscrew my lens hood and the $%^@#! thing won't budge. It's threaded on way too tightly...I felt as though I would tear the lens in half by trying to unscrew the hood!

I really want to start using filters for B&W shooting. I guess I could put some yellow filters on my J-8 or I-26 and work with those until I get the darn hood off my CV 35.

Thanks again!

Yep, mine was like that, too, when I got it new; leaving on the cap really helps; if that does not work, instead of gripping the hood on the outside left and right, try pinching it between your fingers in only one place (meaning inside & outside at the same spot), and turning it; or put it the lens face-down on your mouse-pad and turn (also a good way to remove stuck filters).

Roman, you are my new hero!

The mouse pad worked perfectly! The hood came right off with very little effort. That's a good trick, thank you very much!

Another RFF success story! 😀

Thanks, but I did not invent it - heard about that trick myself somewhere on the internet. In the old ages before mouse-pads existed, sheet rubber was used for that purpose...

Ever heard of Tupperware?
Besides all sizes of plastic shit they also make rubber grip-sheets (don't know what else to call them) with which it is possible to unscrew almost anything. From jar lids to filters.
I have a sheet of it in the bag for removing filters. Sometimes Leitz filters can be very, very stuck on Leitz optics. Strange but true.

Rob.

Rob,
Old people call them jar openers. I don't mean that as disrespect for anyone over a certain age...I am myself. Just that I was at an exhibit and the young fellow, under 30, saw one of the openers and asked what it was. An lady of some vintage mentioned in passing that it was a jar opener. He was dumbstruck. She smirked and walked off. Why didn't I have my camera?

Another possibility is a fat rubber band wraooed several times around the offending hood/filter. Improves the grip and (to a modest extent) evens out the distorting pressure imposed by squeezing.

Incidentally, DON'T use the hood thread (43 male) to attach filters; the filter thread is 39 female. The Jupiter is 40.5.

Cheers,

Roger
