Just got a 50mm summilux (version 2) for my M9 today this is going to be the last lens I buy hopefully. I started with the M8 last year and a pre asph Summilux 35mm 1.4 and promised myself I wouldn't buy anymore it was going to be a one lens one body deal so much for the promise I now have an M9 28mm summicron 50mm and 90mm summicron and got back into film as well so picked up a MP and a 21mm super angulon 3.4.
At least its easy to sell Leica....;)

I have the pre ASPH but it flares so bad I get frustrated. Does anyone have this problem? This is just prior to the ASPH summicron. I sometimes have to use my hand besides always have the hood out all the time. I can shoot my 135 f4 directly into the sun with no problems but even a bright light will cause flare and problems.

There is no Summicron asph 50 so far, you mean Summilux i guess. My latest pre-asph Summilux 50/1.4 (# 11868 from 1996) is virtually flare free in my experience.

Sorry its 50mm summilux and 21mm Super Angulon, I thought about the new 21 but not really looking for anything wider on the M9, I bought the 21 for my M8 when I still had it and worked really well as a 28mm. Once I bought the M9 had it in the classifieds for sale but eventually decided to keep it and now stays on my m2.

I make sure I never say never because that is when I find something else to buy. :^)

That was I told myself when I bought 'Lux 50 pre asph and M9 but end up with 19 lenses (8-50s, 5-35s, 2-135s, a 90, a 28, a 25, a 21):bang:

Fraser you need professional help. You are showing the signs of developing chronic GAS. Denial typically is the first stage, just look at Muddy to see what happens if you do not treat it timely :)

I think I have things under control now, have sold off a lot of lenses and am now down to: 90/2.8, 50/1.4, 35/2 and 21/2.8. No Leica lust, but now slowly am getting curious about all those digital compact (4/3 and aps-c) developments, completely illogical as those cameras are actually not that much smaller than a Leica M (because of some of the huge lenses). Slowly getting back in the danger zone....

The 50 1.4 V2 43 mm never flared even without the hood. I must admit though it's quite heavy for a 50 mm. Yeah right last final lens acquisition is like a husband to wife conversation.

I once owned the first version. I don't have a 50 'Lux at the moment, but this very post has rekindled memories. This lens is a thing of beauty - an exquisite work of fine mechanics and optics - just amazing really.

I had one, stolen. Lucky to discover the weight advantage of a Summicron. The C Sonnar covers my desire for a replacement of the stolen lens. If I had a ridiculous amount of money I would think seriously about the aspheric Summilux.

Fraser ... indeed, you have "the bug." Hey, how do you like your pre-asph Lux 35?

Its pretty good thought about changing to 35mm summicron but once its stopped down past f2 not much real world difference between that and my 28mm summicron, and its quite nice wide open on the M9.
Everything is going up in price now so if I was to sell don't know if I could find another if I changed my mind for the price I paid a few years ago.
