Final solution for a lens hood for the 35mm f/1.8.

Try the hood designed for the Canon AF 35 ML, that is 48mm rubber collapsible, I have one on mine , it seems to perform OK

Do you have a picture of that set-up?

Sure. Here is what you need.

When I say it's close enough in shape, I only judge from pictures I've seen of the original Nikon hood. I haven't noticed any flare nor vignetting. The only downside is that it blocks part of the viewfinder.

The engravings on the lens hood say "3.5/28 JAPAN" and at 180 degrees it simply says "OLYMPUS".

These hoods are readily available on the auction site. I see now that there are rubber ones as well :

Thank you very much, Jan, for showing these. A very nice set up! I've never seen it before.

The set up I suggest is smaller (less blocking of the viewfinder) and is "all rangefinder Nikon". The downside is the fact that the black two-piece shade is so hard to find. The chrome version works too, but is not as nice esthetically.

Erik.

Granted, your solution is smaller and easier to carry around / store away. Would it also be possible to fit a lens cap on yours ? Mine is lacking a cap.

As for the "all RF Nikon" solution, I personally couldn't care less where the hood came from or who made it, as long as it works.

While on the subject of lens hoods, I wonder why Nikon never ventured very far with the "inverted lens hood type". I have one on the 45mm AI-P I got with the FM3A, it's such a nice way to block stray light without adding a lot in terms of size and bulk. It would be perfect for our rangefinders : no more blocking of the viewfinder area.

Maybe a step-down ring could do the trick, like a 48-46mm. Something I need to try some day.
