Hey guys, I just wanted to thank everyone who offered advice and answered all of my many questions regarding the purchase of an MP. I ended up buying a used mint BPMP 3511XXX. I've had it for a couple days and will be trying it out for the next 5 days in Chicago. I'm really excited to shoot with this thing.
I'm coming from an M6 classic to the MP. Here are my first thoughts. While my M6 seemed flawless to me, the MP seems even better. It feels heavier, better built and strangely enough, feels smaller. The smoothness when winding the shutter is significantly smoother. It feels satiny smooth. The black paint is definitely very easy to hold and doesn't slip in my hands. The shutter release button is a bit harder to push. Perhaps it's still stiff from newness. And while it could be in my head, the shutter noise seems a little louder than my M6 classic was.
Perhaps the most impressive thing about the camera - that I don't recall being mentioned, is the unequivocal smoothness of the film rewind knob. When I first pulled it up into place and began to turn it, it honestly was the most precise, velvety smooth mechanical part I've ever had the pleasure of working. It was very impressive. So I guess I do understand the mystique of overbuilt, top quality hand-built Leicas. There is a difference. If M3s feel even better than this, well then I think I'm going to need one.
I purchased a new Gordy strap without protector and have decided not to use it yet. For now I'm going to use my Luigi strap with the lug protector so I don't rub all the finish off just yet. Anyway, thanks again for all the advice. This is one camera I will never, ever sell.

Love is such a strong word. Love involves undying commitment, emotional attachment, butterflies in your stomach, daydreaming, irrational behaviou- yeah, it's love.

funny, I'm not really liking the post rewind knob. too slow and hard to use in the winter with gloves...but everything else is spot on

Congratulations Luke! I'm really glad you found what you were looking for. And that you refrained from using the term, "buttery smooth" in your descriptions!

Haha. Thanks guys. Oh this will definitely be a user. I've already taken off the film on the bottom of the film plate and made the camera bid farewell to it's satin-lined box. I don't even have a camera bag. It's soon going to learn what life outside the box is like!

Make sure that you don't! Selling mine is my biggest camera related regret to date.

Yeah, my only camera regret is selling my M6, but it was financially necessary in order to get the MP. Ive wanted this camera since 2003, I will never, ever sell it. The only time it'll change hands is when I die and my son gets it. I'll get him his own Leica M when he's old enough. That'll be a while though!

I sold mine a couple oy years ago, no regrets as I thought it was overpriced and over hyped.
I've only ever regretted selling M6's.

My M4 hasn't been CLA'd since it left the factory in March of 1970, so I might send her to Youxin for a CLA soon. I can't imagine how it could be even smoother!Sounds as though you will 'need' a M3I have owned 4 MPs and none were as good in terms of use or feel as my M3, M2 or M4.

Does anyone know of a place in Chicago where I can pick up some tri-x? My local store has failed me yet again.

I'm from Tulsa and enroute to Chicago right now. I've never bought film In Chicago before. I usually buy from freestyle, just didn't get the chance to order in time.
