I had a chance to use a Canon EOS 50D for a few days. trying to decide between spending extra cash for it, or just continue looking around for a Dslr.

Fantastic camera. It has lots of bells and whistles. It even makes you coffee in the morning.

I decided to go with the EOS 40D instead. I got a sweet refurbished deal for the body only at $595. I figured I would just spend the difference between both cameras on a nice piece of glass to use.

I really couldnt see spending about double the cash for a 50D.

Good thinking. I can't seem to figure out why to get the 5DMKII when the 5D works fine. Oh, I guess the HD Video would be nice.

You would buy a 5Dii if you needed more resolution, better high iso performance or to spend some money on the latest must have🙂

It's so crazy how fast new models come out and how "experts" call last years models obsolete. I've taken photos with my old Sony H5 Cybershot and some people whistle and say, "wow, that "L" glass you use on your canon is amazing" - i just smile and laugh inside, the whole my pixel is more than your pixel war is crazy. Sure if i blow the damn thing up beyond poster size you see a world of difference, but honestly..unless you carry a loupe around your neck, you wont tell the difference.

I picked up a 40D last summer to replace my 10D. It was the first time I felt the upgrade was worth it. Canon did something to the shutter after the 10D, which made it louder. I was shooting wildlife back then, and certainly didn't want a LOUDER shutter! Then when they designed the 40D, the incorporated some kind of motor for the mirror return, which actually made it quieter than my old 10D. And I didn't feel the difference in the 50D was worth the extra cost either.

yeah i upgraded from the 10d as well. i shoot weddings and the 40d is pretty quiet from the testing i did. i think i will be happy now.
