Finally l have my hands on s IIIc stepper, they have eluded me so far, serial number denotes 1941/2, interestingly it has a london camera store decal on the back, l wonder if after the war it ended up in their hands, they applied the store decal and sold it on, if only it could tell its life story. As you can imagine l am very happy to own it

Nice one, Mike.

They ran out of red curtain material somewhere in 1941. It could also be that the glue/rubber has soaked to into the red material and turned it black (if they haven't been replaced). I have a 1941 IIIc like that.

As a 'young person' I was a Wallace Heaton (Bond Street) customer. My III came from there in 1965. I remember a dark wood panelled room down a few stairs at the back, this was the second hand department.

Nowadays it would be called 'previously owned' or even 'previously cherished'. Bah!

Many thanks, l could not believe that l picked it up for £130 which l feel is a very good deal. I could be wrong but l feel IIIc steppers are still quite hard to find,

Yes, l can relate to that, my Saturdays in the late 1970s were spent visiting the secondhand departments of various camera shops in Newcastle upon Tyne, happy days:)

Congratulations on your new IIIc. I have a 1941 "stepper" in the 383xxx serial range which I purchased along with a 1940 Summitar 563xxx serial number. The IIIc "stepper" is a variation that I am very fond of. Together with the Summitar it is a perfect photo machine for my rangefinder taste. Here's to many years of enjoyable photog adventures.

p.s. Your camera's connection to the Wallace Heaton store comes with a Royalty Warrant which makes it even more interesting...

Thanks Mike for the reply, although l own a IIIg, my newly acquired IIIc stepper has really fired up my enthusiasm:)
