Wait, do the MiNT-people have anything to do with that?
I don't know, frankly I hope not.
My concern is that less than reputable folks see a pattern and copy it. It's not hard. The MiNT folks might have figured out there is a niche with a bit larger pocks interested in this sort of camera.
When I look at the pictures with a critical eye I don't see but a very thin wire connection between the body and the lens in the front. I see a shutter release inside the wind lever on the body (looking early Leica M-ish) and a shutter speed dial next to it. So if you select the shutter speed on the dial it needs to signal the shutter speed around the lens. Not impossible, but pretty fancy engineering. There was some technology that flipped an LCD panel from opaque to transparent a few years back, that could work as an electronic shutter, but I doubt the thin wire could be power and signalling.
With the exception of the approach of the old Mamiya Six, I don't see any way to focus with the help of what appears to be a rangefinder.
It just feels very similar to the silliness.
From the opposite side, they could just be testing the water to see how much interest there is in this sort of camera before they throw a lot of time and money into the engineering.
I bet you could spend a lot less cash on getting a fuji back made for a baby speed graphic (2.25x3.25). A few finder masks and you have a bit bigger but very functional camera.
