Finally!! The instant camera we want!

Nate no longer has backs to do the instax conversion. It's been a good while since he has been able to do this, atleast that's what I was told.

As of today it's still possible to buy a Belair Instax Wide back from Lomo but only as part of a complete Belair Instant Camera kit at $329. So Nate would have to raise the price for his conversion by more than $200, which many (most?) buyers will find prohibitive.

I bought my Land 250 from Nate. He adjusted/modified it to be ready for use.
 
For someone who doesn't have backs to do a conversion with, Nate's web site is still full of converted ones, so I guess he used them all up, and has lots of finished stock to move. But then it still says he can convert your camera.

I'm still torn as to getting my 110B made into a 4x5, but if the bellows of the EE100 wasn't crap, I'd be more than glad to have it converted to Instax Wide.

MiNT produces excellent cameras. I have two of their Polaroid SX-70-based cameras (the 670m and 670a) and both are top notch performers in the instant camera world. (And now that the Impossible Project has become Polaroid Original, with more resources being put to perfecting the film, they really produce wonderful photos.)

If Gary is making an Instax 210 based RF camera, it will be excellent. My Lomo Instant Square arrived and the Fuji Instax film is truly top notch.

So ... all the naysayers ***-pooing a solid, innovative little company that's doing something positive for FILM photography are just chewing off their own feet. Yet again. How ridiculous is that?

I was watching that a couple of days ago and was wondering if the guys from Mint were planning to release it.
 
So, what do we know so far?
Name: MiNT InstantKon RF70
Format: Fijifilm Instax Wide
Lens: MINTOPTIC ASPHERICAL LENS 1:5.6 WITH GLASS F=93mm
Target release date: mid-2018

What we can guess from the video and the site:
Shutter: electronic central shutter 1-1/500 s
Focusing: rangefinder with separate viewfinder
Price: "slightly more" than 730 USD

From "with glass" label I guess it's not all glass, probably the aspherical element is plastic.
 
I always welcome innovations about instant photography. Personally I feel to be a "loyal Impossible User" and I have some resistance to switch to a new different format (I know it's something irrational!) and I had preferred such a camera aimed to the new improved Polaroid (Impossible) film.

And as I daily repeat to myself I do not need another camera, I do not need another camera, I do not need..., I do not...

But it's good MINT starts a project like this, let's see what happens...

I haven't. But I've shot enough of Instax Mini that I know that it isn't worthy of a $100 camera let alone a camera that costs much more. And that is only because of the ridiculously small size (for a final finished picture).

IMHO, of course.
 
Well, I just finished my first pack of Fuji Instax Square film in the Lomo Instant Square camera.
  • I'm delighted with the film: The color and sharpness is really good, much like Polaroid SX-70 was in the past (and hopefully will be again once the new films are completely sorted—they're definitely getting there with every successive generation!).
  • The smaller size square prints are charming in their own right. Size isn't everything. I do prefer the larger SX-70 format, but eh? there's lots to love regardless.
  • The Lomo Instant Square is obviously built to a price and kinda cheap feeling, but it works very well with good controls and consistent operation.

A format comparison (sizing keep to the relative pixel dimensions, same post-scan processing on all other than the cropping—just minimal tone curve adjustment):

The MiNT InstantKon RF70 is another departure in format ... It's kind of like Polaroid Spectra vs Polaroid SX-70. But with my experience using MiNT's other instant film creations, and what I see coming in its design, I will almost have to buy one when they ship. It fits in perfectly with my increasingly odd, niche style, working camera collection.

Life's too short to not play with cameras that make you smile! 😀

I'm sorry MiNT, I confused you folks (who seem to do a GREAT job) with the folks who are trying to bring out a camera under the Yashica monikor.

The folks who own the rights to Yashica have the sent of gannif all over them.

MiNT does not.

I found useful YouTube channels. On Photography Concentrate different camera's using the mini format were compared including the TL70. Also a lot of information from Robert Hamm Photography about the TL70. After watching all this videos my conclusion was that the TL70 is great for portraits but most of my photos are in landscape mode. But if you love using a TLR and don't mind the mini format, it's an option to consider.

I'm afraid that one thing that Gary Ho posted in Update #3 (Feb 26) raised a yellow flag for me:

There is one point I have to make clear: InstantKon RF70 will not be as good as the custom Polaroid conversions in terms of lens quality and image quality.

There's certainly plenty of room for the lens to be better than the ones on the Fuji 210/300 and the Lomo Wide while still not being so good as a 127mm Ysarex, let alone the late-model view camera lenses that end up on some conversions. But if it's not a lot closer to the Ysarex than to the plastic lenses on the low-end cameras, I think price starts to become an issue.

Here's hoping...
