My Kiev 4 has been plaguing me with a lightleak. From the position it looks like its somewhere at the top of the camera but I am not sure where. Check out the attachments.

A part that is behind the shutter (on top, not sure what to call it but it forms a rectangle) was a little bent which looks like it could be the problem but I am not sure. I was able to bend the piece back into what it should look like, so I will run another roll though it soon. I also replaced the worn away light seal with some thick string + rubber cement.

Anything I have missed? Could there be a leak in the helical?

Thanks,

Does the light leak extend into the area off the normal part of the negative? Can you see it in the sprokets? If so, you've got the normal Kiev light leak (besides the typical major light leak when the shutter cords snap- I just lost one this week to that one) which is the back not fitting well into the light trap.

If not, you might have a "fixed" or "cleaned" Kiev where someone didn't replace the light trap in the rangefinder.

Save the sticky tape-light trap from old film containers- use it to redo the light seal on your back.

JD, if you have a broken kiev would you be willing to part with it? I need a new back for mine because one of the latch things on mine broke off, so I was having a hard time attaching the bottom securely (maybe this could be a cause for my leaks). Feel free to PM me or email me at einolu at gmail dot com and maybe we can work something out.

Haha!

"A" broken Kiev?

You want backs? I'll send you a few. I'm keeping the fronts for the lens mounts. These things are like... Uh... Um... Hmmm. This is a family site, I can't say that. Suffice it to say that I'd like to push them all together to make just one good one. Kiev that is.

I'm getting another shelf for my Jupiter 8 collection (sigh)

PM sent.

Hah, thanks.

The jupiter 8 really does deserve worship, one of the photos I took didnt have a light leak problem and it had the loveliest out-of-focus background (uploading it to my gallery as I speak).
