Finished a Shantou ERA100 review

I reckon it is. I buy from an eBay dealer in Taiwan. 🙂 Though I like Era FP100 I much prefer Lucky SHD100.

Is the film base of SHD100 very thick? I've got some SHD 400 in 120, and the base is really thick and stiff - makes it difficult to scan.

How would you compare the two? What do you prefer about the Lucky film?

The base of SHD100 in 135 film isn't overly thick, nor is it very thin.

I develop my films in caffenol and I find that that works very nicely with Lucky SHD100. The grain is small and smooth. I find it has a fine tonality, and it's not overly concerned about being over or underexposed. I found that the Era FP100 developed in caffenol had much larger grain; disturbingly large IMO. Something that annoyed me about Efke in Rodinal too. In my experience the Lucky film scans much better than the Era film. Lucky film doesn't have an anti-halation layer but I love the highlights that gives. Besides, the strength of the effect depends on quite a few factors in my experience, mainly the source of the high light and whether there's much contrast in the scene or not. When you over-expose the effect is more pronounced than when you underexpose. See here ( http://shardsofphotography.blogspot.com/search?q=lucky ) and here ( http://shardsofphotography2.blogspot.com/search?q=lucky ) for examples.

Not having much in medium speed 35mm film, I just ordered twenty rolls of the Era100 to try, from Isaac Chen on evilbay.

Isaac, right? I buy from him, too. With the Taiwan postal service's "dove mail" I usually get it next-day from Tainan->Taipei...once he mailed it early and I got it the same day! 😛

Isaac, yes.
He ships fast, and the Taiwanese mail is pretty swift itself too. When I order I receive my brick usually within a week in Holland.
