I already updated my XE-1 and now that I have the 35 1.4 can I update this separately? The Fuji site says update the XE-1 and 35 1.4 same time. Please help :bang:. Thanks.

I don't know the Fujis all that well with respect to updates, but if you fit the 35 to the XE-1 and do the update, it shouldn't matter that the body is already updated. At least, that's how lens {or camera unit} firmware updates like this worked on my Panasonic Micro-FourThirds and work now on my Ricoh GXR.

Thanks Godfrey I'll try that. I was thinking since I upgraded to the latest XE-1 firmware, when I fit the 35 1.4, it will automatically update the lens because it is embedded in the the 1.04 version.

Body firmware is always updated first
Body firmware is always updated first
When multiple fw updates are available, u need to update the the body first and then the lens. Complete the body one first. It will reboot and then u need to power off and back on to confirm update was good. Go thru the fw update start process again by holding down the disp/back button and go thru the lens update process next.
The Fuji camera will only update the lens when the that lens is in place.
In the past, the few names were the same for both body and lens... It was only lately that they finally got smart and changed the name for each lens and the body.. But all lens names are the same per lens type/length.
The name has too match exactly w/ the expected one or else it is not recognized. For example, the body update is fpupdate.dat and if I remember correctly the 35 is xpup0002.dat. Any deviation of that name will cause the firmware update processing to fail..
On a Mac, during the download process, if it detects a file w/ the same name in the folder u have designated as the download location, it will automatically rename the file append a number to the file name body.. Something like xfup0002(1).dat for example. U need to rename that file back to xpup0002.dat.
What I do is to move these files into a known dated folder after the download, so that the renaming process does not happen.
Depending on your os, similar things may happen.

I use Mac 10.8.2 OS. I have upgraded the body firmware several weeks ago and I will only get the 35 1.4 today. I already deleted that file from my computer and may need to re download again.

Once u have the latest update to the body, u don't need to do it again. U only need to download the 35 update. So long as the name is the expected one, then the Fuji fw updater should kick off the lens update as documented in the lens portion area of the download site (fw update web info is worst website I have ever seen for this).

FWUP0001-1.DAT which I used for the body, I found the file in the download files. Shall I copy this to the formatted SD card and update the camera again with the lens attached? You said it FW instructions from the manufacturer are not very clear always.

Mac auto renamed the file. The "-1" value was appended. But that looks like the old name.
My jan 28, 2013 downloaded names are fpupdate.dat and xpup0002.dat.
On nov 11, 2012, when they had body and lens updates for all three lenses the names were fpupdate, xpup0001.dat, xpup0002.dat and xpup0003.dat.

It's been a few weeks since I've updated mine, but I believe Gary is correct. I did them all separately, first with the camera with no lens attached. Then with each lens attached (the menu choice to update body/lens will show only 'body' when you have no lens attached.
Watch out when you downloaded. The file names are *not* indicative of what they're for. I downloaded them one at time, deleting them as I go to prevent mishaps. I don't know if Fuji built any safety mechanism into it, but I wasn't going to chance it.

That's the correct page for the lens. Keep scrolling down the page until you get to the hyperlink. Clink you agree and then scroll down the next page until you see the link for the .DAT file. Download then add to your SD card to update in camera.
