Dropping a tonne for a M
Hey All,
Well the moon and stars have all fallin' in to place and I have recieved in the post today my Nikon S with the classic 50mm F1.4. The camera that I have been pineing over the last 6 months is here. I have run her though some basic stuff speed's and curtains. I bought her from a member here in Canada and man did he do me a deal a very good user S and a mint- piece of glass. Shot a quick roll and will drop off tomorrow. I can't wait. I have been a Nikon F user for sometime now and it's like riding a bike (just don't keep your finger on the wheel). I know this only quick fix for my ever growing nikon collection and I'll start jonesing soon for a S2 or maybe another F.
Now I do have a question and I would like your ideas. EverReady case, Shoulder strap or half case? and which?

I would suggest the original Nikon S case. The case for the S2's and later do not fit the S: the tripod socket is in a different place. I Picked up an S case on Ebay and it is in great shape. The cover detaches to easily use as a half case, unlike the Leica and Contax cases of the period. I'll keep an eye open. They are often mislabeled on Ebay and go for under $25. I picked up a half case once for $5 on Ebay, stamped Made in Occupied Japan. Goes with the M.

Congrats on your new camera.
You do get used to the thumbwheel. Honest!
I'm an over-the-shoulder strap person, but a half case is probably a more sensible way to protect a 55-year-old camera.

Nice Job, Nicolas!
I have also moved mount screws around; for a while I used a Nikon S2 case with my Contax IIIa. I also use S2 cases with the S3 and SP; cut some of the leather off to make use of the self-timer.
The bottom lining comes up fairly easily, I start it with a screwdriver. Take out the screw, "chisel a little", put the screw back. It is held in with a slotted "washer"; thin metal in a slot on the screw. Comes out with needle-nosed pliers. There are two types of S2 cases: the heavier made one with descenders, and a lighter case much like the S case shown. I have never paid more than $20 for a complete S2 case.

I have ordered a couple of wrist straps from Gord (Kiev and Zorki need love too) but I will look for a half case just for protection till I can do the sweet mod'd that Nicolas did to the S2 case. Right now I have a Domke gripper strap on her and my camera bag (or man purse) to keep her away from the bad people with there eye's all a stareing.
