First digital M on the way.

And the M 240 is an excellent choice. All of my shots in the Sonnar Shot a Day thread are with mine.

Enjoy!

Bought a nice looking M Type 240 from Time Lei last night. Should be in Memphis tomorrow hopefully. Should be a good less expensive way to get my feet wet in digital.

I have one. It is like the sheepherder and the Border Collie. The dog is smarter. The 240 is a good camera and has that whopping big battery. A spare is a good idea. I like the color as I am an Agfachrome guy. All in all, a good camera. And you can make an SLR out of it with the EVF. The Leica one is too expensive. The other is an Olympus VF-2 and the same EVF, just a different name. Happy shooting.

Tim is an excellent source. :)
He was pretty helpful and patient. I didn't know he was as well respected as he is and I was skeptical of the posts on Facebook at first. But he put up with my messages and questions until I pulled the trigger. Tried to buy and M10-P a few days before and it sold literally while we were messaging. Glad I didn't spend quite that much now. Maybe those prices will be down more next year and I'll get the black M10-P or R that I was drooling over.

This thing is picky with SD cards. The ones I have here are 10+ years old used in my Pentax dslr. It’s giving me fits with those cards. I’ve got a new one coming tomorrow that I hope resolves the freezing up issues I’m having.

Not particularly fussy for me.

I have an "Infinitive" SDHC 32 gb card. No clue who actually made it. Used it in my D810, works fine in my 240 and I plan to put it in my K5 when it arrives on Monday

My main one in my 240 is a Lexar SDXC V30 633x 64 gb than someone left at the hotel and never claimed till it was going to be thrown away. I snarfed it at that point. I would never spend that much on one though.

These are my favorites: SanDisk Flash 16 GB SDHC Flash Memory Card SDSDB-016G (search for that on Amazon, the link I tried to post doesn't work)

I dont recall which SD card i used in the M-P 240, too long ago now. Whatever it was, i never had any problems with that.

I think a modern, 64-128G card is probably a better bet. That and using the SD card formatter app on your desktop computer to set up the card in the first place. (I'll send a link when i get back home. I'm walking with my latest acquisition at present...🙃)

... The SD Card Formatter app is available free of charge from SD Memory Card Formatter for Windows/Mac | SD Association
It's always a good idea to format your SD cards before use with it, and then using the in-camera formatting utility afterwards. The SD Card Organization does the best, cleanest format you can do; better than any in-camera formatter I've seen.

I have a Lexar 1000x 128Gbyte SD card in my M10-M and a SanDisk Extreme Pro 128Gbyte SD card in my M10-R. They've been in these cameras since I got them, and allow a vast number of exposures before needing to be emptied and reformatted. Never a single problem with either... and they're only about $25 apiece. :) Same cards are in my Hasselblad 907x and Olympus E-M1 as well.

Honestly, I wouldn't use that big of a card in a 240 and I download off of mine daily. I have lost photos to bad cards more than once and don't trust cards. That's why I suggest 16 or 32 gb cards instead. I only have that 64 gb card because it was free.

What Leica says, always a good starting point: Storage medium SD cards up to 2 GB / SDHC cards up to 32 GB /SDXC cards.

I've been using 64 and 128 G SD type cards for over a decade, once the price got down into a reasonable range. I think these SDXC cards are actually more reliable than than the older, smaller card series. I'm sure I used at least 64G cards back in my M-P 240 and M-D 262 days ... that wasn't so long ago.

I download all my day's session exposures every day after the session from the 128 G cards in the M10-M/-R. I leave all the exposures on the card too ... they become an invisible backup and there in case I want to move and process any of my exposures in the field or when on travel. Right now, the M10-M card has about 590 DNG files on it (about 40Mbytes each, give or take), and 980 MBytes of free space. I last archived it in its entirety on April 7, what's on there now is everything since then.

I love having just the one card to manage for each camera.
But whatever works for you and that you are comfortable with, go right ahead.
I'm just recommending what I know has worked perfectly for me.

Godfrey- Thanks for the link and info about it. Been using digital since Nikon 5700. Never heard / knew about the tool on your link. Have bookmarked it and after a bit more info about it will decide about using it.
Thanks again,

Having lost pictures from the HD due to user stupidity, I have started saving cards as an extra archive.
