The xm1 w/ the 27 pancake looks small.. Just slightly bigger then the x20. When the zoom is fully retracted, it is about the same depth as the 27..
There are also some sample shots.

After watching the new features on the xm1, I really think they did a good job in terms of the target audience. I can situations where one spouse has the xp1/xe1 and if the ther spouse is somewhat interested in photographer but does not necessarily want a xp1 type famera that this maybe a good alternate camera for them..especially w/ the new sr+ mode.
I was also thinking put the new 27 on it and add a 40 cv ovf and u got a pretty compact package.
The one thing about the xm1 that I am not a fan of is dedicated movie buttons. They are always located someplace where I seem to accidentally hit it
.
Gary
Ps.. Right now I still don't think this camera is for me, even as a backup

Seems like they are competing with themselves. I have been considering some of their products for an upcoming purchase and... well... I find myself confused!

Why? Xp1/xe1 for serious amateur market.. Xm1 for entry level and/or those who don't care about evf or ovf.

Or the XF, X20, and X100. All different. It just seems that the XE and XM are so similar.

Xf and x10/20 purely for the p&s target.
X100/x100s for those serious amateurs who just want to keep it simple w/ a fixed lens sort of like the old film camera like The Konica AF or Canon q17 or Nikon 35ti, etc.
They are basically covering the market segments out there. Btw u forgot the xs1 which is the super zoom p&s market
I think over time some of these may disappear such as xf1 or xs1. Kind of depends on how well they did. From the number of threads I have seen, I would assume the others are doing ok.

fuji has said they are cutting about 1/2 of their p&s models...the xm1 is like a very classy p&s...only you can change lenses if you want.
i bet that plastic 16-50 is gonna be a killer lens...it's the glass that counts after all.
i was thinking about exchanging my rx100 for the xm1 so i could use my other lenses if i wanted to. i think the xm1 in the fuji line up is a stork of genius...smart phones are killing the p&s market and fuji has just re-invented the p&s camera!!

But a xm1 w/ that 16-55 zoom is huge compared to your rx100. Of course overall iq goes to the xm though.

very true!
i'm more likely to sell/trade my rx100 for the new mk2 version...a camera this good and this small cannot be discounted...it is so handy in so many situations.

It is just me! I love what Fuji has been doing and I may just join them again, sooner than later. I just need to get in the groove and study up!
The nice thing about what Fuji is doing, is their current lineup of APS models all have the same sensor. So it comes down to feature differences.
With Sony, for example, the NEX 6 has a different sensor than the 7. So there are more variables in the decision.

Well, I just love my Sony kit and I adore my Sigma kit. But, what I would really like to do is get down to being loyal to one brand or system. Fuji's recent efforts are very attractive and I miss my X100 which I found to be very complementary to my film favorite of M3/40. Study time!

The best camera is one that still works!

I think it's time you stopped tarting around these Fuji threads and got your butt back to the Sigma/foveon threads where you really belong!

Does anyone know of a good write up on all of the X series cameras for comparisons between the X-Pro1, X-E1, X-M1, X100s and X20?
I have been jotting down notes with my mind sort of pointing towards the X-M1 as a possible camera to add to my gear. But I'd love if someone had already done all the homework and made a chart. I'm trying to see how they compare and if the X-M1 is something I could enjoy using or if I should hold out and save a bit for the upper models and use my Leica lenses with them and an adapter.

Hmm. Unaware of such a writeup, but it boils down to:
X-Pro1, X-M1, X-E1, X100S have the same sensor so IQ will be identical
X-Pro1 has both EVF and OVF + LCD, traditional controls
X-E1 has EVF + LCD, traditional controls
X-M1 has LCD only, however it is flip-up; simplified controls
X100S has fixed lens, OVF, EVF, LCD; leaf shutter, high flash sync speed, traditional controls
X20 is a smaller sensor camera
All cameras have the xtrans array.
Hope this basic outline helps.

Thanks for the very simple and concise overview, that is most helpful!
I'm going to continue to save my pennies and see how the X-M1 does and what you guys get from it once they are out. I won't be buying anything until later in the year.
Ultimately I'd like the X-Pro1... I just have to decide if the OVF is worth the extra money along with the traditional controls.

I was in the same boat wanting a xpro1 for the ovf. After using an xe1 for a day I decided I did not really need an ovf anymore and am saving that extra money for a zeiss 32 touit lens instead.
