Hi,

I am going "back to the future" by selling my 1D Mk2n and lenses. An buying a Leica "M". I found myself feeling rushed to take pictures with this machine gun. Only to feel stressed at home knowing that there all these images waiting to be "processed". More importantly I feel disconnected from photography. Last but not least lugging that big slr around is a pain. Let alone that if I want to take a picture in public people shy away. I have tons of shots taken in metropolitan city's without any humans in sight...

Oh yes also got arrested because I took a picture of the entrance of the Veterans Hospital in SF 😡

To the point. A Leica MP seems very interesting.
And there is this offer on Ebay that I would like some input on:
Its the Leica "Leica Ala Carte MP Black Paint" Currently is on top of the list without any bids on it. While the price compared to others seems reasonable.


I have been looking into the Mamiya 7 and Fuji 690. The larger film format is very atractive. But I think that these large body's defeat the purpose of my quest...

Mamiya 7ii is just a GREAT camera...
But if you need some GOOD connect to your camera, and THOUGHT you are actualy doing, MP is the right choise 😉
 
MP is definitely the right choice! 🙂 The price doesn't seem particularly reasonable to me, unless you value a body that looks pristine. This is billed as an a la carte body but I can't for the life of me see anything beyond a standard body. Not even a Vulcanite body cover. So what is a la carte about it? I've not been following the current prices of MPs but I would have thought $2200 or 2300 is reasonable to pay for used. No box - buyers love all the trimmings like box w/matching serial numbers and all papers/bits & pieces. Think about when you might sell (like buying a house - can I sell this house when the time comes? 🙂) I would wait and watch until you get a hang of what constitutes a value buy before you spend.
 
I had the Mamiya 7 with 65mm and 150mm lenses and the image quality was superb. However, not as portable as I wanted. I've ended up with an M6 (classic) CV 28/f1.9, Cron 35/f2 and CV75/f2.5 and it's a great little combo.

To be fair, I don't use it half as much as I'd anticipated as I love my D300. However, for relatively inconspicuous street shooting as well as landscapes and the odd impromptu portrait, you'll have to go a long way to beat a small rangefinder. I don't pretend to know the camera model you're looking at but if it's half as good (or better) than my M6, it's worth the money.

Yeap... That's just simply the MP... No a la carte signs out there...
I don't like the electronic shutter, but under that MP, there is M7, which is quite fine camera... Real ninja 😉
