Just wanted to share my first (non scientific) test pictures of my new Elmar 135/4 @ F4. I like the outcome. I also have the Canon 135/3.5 of which I will post some test pics asap. Haven't decided which I like best yet.
Sorry about some of the dust specs.

These pictures were made during a (cloudy) family day at the Carnaval parade.

And here are 2 pictures of a nice day with the black Canon 135mm/3.5. Fairly wide open. I think F4 or F5.6.

I also really like these. The Leica was a little bit nicer to handle on the camera.

Any comments are welcome.

Nice pictures, Roel, thanks for posting. To my eyes the two lenses behave very similarly. Is this a chrome Elmar or the newer black Tele Elmar ?

Roland.

Hate to say it, but the Canon pics actually look sharper and have a slightly more 3-D feeling? All nice pics, though. The regular Elmar is quite a bargain and a fine lens.

Thank you Roland,

It's a chrome lens with black base. See att. Pics.

They do behave alike. And indeed the Canon seems to have a bit more 3d image. But the conditions were not simular so I haven't made up my mind yet. I will take more (and simular) pics to compare the lenses.

How is focusing on 135mm?

How is focusing on 135mm?

Hello,

Nice images and I liked all of them. Could you tell me how you find using the 135mm? Was it very difficult to tell when you are in focus?
I often consider the 135 for it's extra reach. I liked the oof parts and that I had not expected. They do a good job of isolating your subject.

Nice to see family photo's!

Thnx. The isolating thing is what I also like. Will make some test with more subtile traditional closer cropped portraits (90mm style). I'm curious to how the 135mm's work for that. The focussing was aided by a little magnifier (Leica copy). That helped, but fast moving kids are challenging when shooting wide open!

I think you should just try it yourself. The Canon lenses and the Hektor/Elmars are definitly not expensive (compared to other lenses) Try it and if you don't like the 135mm or handling, sell it. The testing part alone was already fun!
