First photos from my R-D1

Ok these are just a collection of shots from my first day out with my camera. Not particularly great material, though a few i think will grow on me.

The black and white shots were converted with the standard black and white colour profile from jfi labs, which i was made aware of at reid reviews, they're available here

I've been looking through your guys black and white shots and have never really done it before myself so it was quite nice to look through my shots in colour and black and white. Some shots i've put online in both so you can compare the two if you'd like. They also include the dustblobs untreated that i've mostly fixed today

Anyways i've put them online in my flikr account so i've been able to upload the full size images, and try out my new pro account

I'm seriously considering buying a R-D1 . I am a low light (some say lowlife) kind of guy and was interested in the quality of your early morning pictures. I would be doing alot of my shooting at 1600ISO and RAW . It would be great if in your early morning endeavors you could snap a few pix at ISO1600 and RAW and post them on your FLICKER site. I especially would like to see how RAW handles noise in the shadows.

I will try to keep an eye out for shots like that.. I've taken a few pics at 1600 ISO, its not great.. not as good as my 350D SLR, tho very close. It depends really.. ISO 800 is usually really clean but as with all things if you have a dark (underexposed area) shot then the noise becomes more visible.

The last shot i've uploaded so far is ISO 800 late at night and the noise is a bit bad in places.

Still its noise, or lack of. That was one of the reasons I wanted an R-D1.

I'll take some 1600 shots when i can.

There is a sprinkling of b&w processed ones again, always with the colour one included for comparison. I've also dabbled with some panoramic shots that I put together using autostitcher, along with a HDR tone blended shot which doesn't quite work but it was only working from a single raw shot, not multiple exposures.

Again there are the raw converted full resolution jpegs hidden away under the all_sizes option for each picture that let you see the good and the bad of my R-D1's sensor.

Sorry rvaubel there are no high ISO shots in this set.. I've noticed off and on that my sensor has quite a lot of hot pixels as the sensitivity gets up to and beyond 800 and the scene stays relatively dark, or the exposure stays relatively long. Not fatal, and i dont know how different this problem is to everyone elses.
