Hi folks, took my 'new' Leica iiia out for a test drive, just to see if it worked really. Found a Weston Master III on THAT auction site for a fiver which I've managed to get to work, an also a film scanner that seems to work best on the B&W scans when you ignore all the presets and scan it as a generic colour neg 
using Vuescan.
Anyway..here's my first attempts with a RF

All are very good but #3 is fantastic! Shame about that plastic boat on the left, maybe crop just a little to get rid of the mast?

Yeah, I couldn't make my mind up about that...you know how it gets when you stare at something too long ! I left the space on the left in to balance the pic, but maybe you're right... anyway, here's a cropped version.

Seems you're off to a good start, don't change that set-up! I like the contrasts in the shots, they have nice tonality.

I like the first and the third as compositions. However, I find all rather on the dark side. I am, incidentally, waiting for a IIIa to come back after a detached shutter curtain has been re-attached.

That could b e a problem with all things electronic I guess. My monitor is calibrated for my use and if yours is calibrated differently then your not going to see what I do ! There should be a standard for these things. Although I must admit I do tend to lean towards the dark side as I listen to a lot of David Sylvian and Leonard Cohen CDs

There *are* ways to calibrate monitors to a standard, midniteson, and here's a simple way to check yours. Look at fifty photos in the gallery here. If 45 do not seem to be what they should be, it's your monitor that's off.

Well, I use one of those Pantone Huey things to calibrate the screen, so I insist that everyone else on the internet goes and buys one so that my pictures look the same the world over

I like the darker version the best! to me it shows more of the woods character. I also like the cropped version of the old ship! Good to see the Leica is working out well for you!

Hugely impressed. How accurate is the rangefinder? Do you find that you can second guess the distances> I am using a point and shoot 1A and have recently dispatched the fodis rangefinder in favour of a brightline viewfinder.......an amazing viewing experience over the old Galilean viewfinder from the late 20's!

The rangefinder seems to be very accurate, but I must admit, I prefer the finders on a FED 2 and Zorki 4 I have also just bought. The FED one did need calibrating though, which took me about 3 hours to do ! Also just finished CLA -ing the Zorki. As it only cost me £15 with a mint Jupiter 8 f2.0. I was n't
too worried if it all went pear shaped. Fortunately I managed to remove the top cover and body shell and clean all the shutter gears etc with a syringe and some lighter fuel and then put it all back together with no screws left over
The shutter (which was sticking before) seems to work a dream now, though the wind on is still a bit stiff. Looking forward to getting out and about with my new outfit
