First photos with the R-D1

Hi, I purchased an R-D1 yesterday along with Nokton Classic 40mm f/1.4 SC. I usually shoot with a Canon 5D but was longing for something a little smaller for personal work. I'm really happy about the quality of the files. I'd almost go as far as saying that they are on par with the 5D except for the file size and high ISO performance. All in all, very very happy.

These photos were shot from the 43rd floor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Building in Shinjuku.

Thanks, I'm already in love with it. Snapped this today while I was out. I love the fact it's small enough to put in my *edit (jacket) pocket.

Thanks, glad you like my blog, it's pretty new as I only started taking photos 6 months ago. My pockets aren't deep at all, actually I'm really skint now... 😱

Haha, OH! Yeah well those pockets are deep, it's winter here so I am always wearing a jacket! Guess I should have mentioned that...

On that first shot, the red sweater has such a deep rich color... The camera did very well at that with the bright background, and also very rich colors in the sidewalk market shot as well. Have fun!

Got my R-D1s from a local forum seller. Like new condition with full set, 1400 shutter counts only. After tried it 2 days, decided to sell my whole set of Nikon D700. It's like 2 different planets. Love the rangefinder's feeling and didn't shoot as many shots as D700 a day, when using D700, it's like shoot then choose, now i have to think a lot before shoot. ^^

Got the Voigtlander 15mm f4.5 & 28mm f2

A few shots that I took in these 10 days.

1st one is Raw to jpeg, adjust a bit the exposure because a bit over.

2nd & 3rd were jpeg directly from cam.

All taken with 28mm f2

Normally where I return to a thread to read the new posts I do just that and go straight to the new posts... but not with this thread, I just have to look at the first photo over and over again... at least 2-3 times a day since you opened the thread

I live in Sydney but I'm a Wellington boy (New Zealand for those that know not of where I speak)
been hanging out here for a while now... want an rd1 real bad but they keep getting away from me at the last second on ebay
I can't really afford one and the wife will kill me when I do get one. As long as can get a few photos in before I die I'll die happy 🙂

That red back is truly beautiful in the first picture. Was there a light above the person in the photo and perfect exposure or is it more post-processing?

The second picture of the second set has nice composition.

I took that shot of my friend on aperture priority so the camera metered it like that. Which is saying a lot for the metering system as the exposure was spot on. There was no light above her. It was shot in jpeg and has had minimal adjustments in post processing. Some of the other shots though have had some pp as I believe every shot out of camera can be made better with a little pp.
