First Pics with the R3A

Finally, after so much hassle with taking the plunge back into film and having my films lost by the developer, I get to see some results and at last post a first pics with my new camera thread.

Verdict?
- Must sort out my framing as some of my pics ended up right of centre.
- Focus needs a bit of work, but for the first attempt not too bad.
- Pro400c seemed to work well for me
- high street developer has lost my pics, scratched my negs (I'm not a great fan of tram lines) and gave me barely useful scans (5-600k only - hence the low quality pics here) - won't be using them again.
- Need to take more 'photos' than 'snaps' next time.
- Need to take more rolls of film next time.

Nice shots.
I think the color balance is a bit off. At least on my monitor, the first lady looks a bit green.
I share your frustration with labs. It was one of the things that drove me to finally start doing my own black and white.

Thanks - pics refreshed using a bit of neutral colour picker editing. I'll dabble a bit more with film before I invest in processing and/or scanners. But at least I have something in my hands now 🙂

The ringbearer shot is quite nice. Did you add the vignetting? Which lens(es) were you using?

Reasonable quality scanners can be had pretty cheaply if you're not going to go over medium format with the film.
I've got about $100 in to "lab" stuff, and I bought brand new instead of taking advantage of all the used wet lab gear out there.

In any case, you should settle in with the camera and lenses before taking on another project like developing.

Hehe - yes a bit of flickr added vignetting on that shot. Couldn't resist seeing what could be done with a low res pick. I used the Voigtlander 75/2.5 and 40/1.4 SC on the day. Of course, getting used to the unforgiving focus range at 1.4 is going to take some getting used to, as is focusing the 75mm.

Here's one more with the 75mm.

As an amateur, I'm not sure if I could cope with focusing the 90mm spot on all the time in the heat of battle, and the frameline would be smaller on the R2A. The 75mm handled well though.

Those shots are very quality for manual focus in a wedding environment IMO. Still seems a tad green though.
