Hello all,

I’ve had an X100 for a week or so and I thought I’d add my impressions to the list here. I’m a wedding and portrait photographer by trade, which I love, but I hadn’t been taking photos for myself for quite some time. The thought of dragging around the 5D mkII’s and associated lenses always put me off so when I read about the Fuji it struck a cord. After being told of all the pre-orders and supply difficulties I didn’t expect to get one for some time but two days after I placed the order it arrived.

There hasn’t been a lot of opportunity to fully test it out over the past week but the results from what I’ve taken have been very pleasing on the whole. From some of the reviews I had read before the camera arrived I had been expecting something much more deeply flawed than the X100 has turned out to be in the flesh. My approach is very simple, not requiring digging through menus after every shot so once set up, I haven’t had to play around with that side of it very much at all. The controls fall easily hand and the auto focus seems quick enough for most things although I’m finding myself using manual focus in combination with the AFL button more often than not now. Auto ISO is well implemented so I’m happy enough using that just to keep things simple.

I’ve only shot raw so far and I’ll possibly continue to shoot that way as it fits with my post processing routine better. The image quality is great and I’m simply loving having a camera with me all the time now. It’s kind of like being back at the early days of taking photos for the simple fun of it, snapping away merrily at anything that moves or sits still long enough. That aspect may well wear off but I hope not.

All in all, I couldn’t be much happier and I’m yet to really run into much of the operational issues that I was worried about. Great little machine.

Cheers,

Craig.
