I'm Leica M8,M4P user ..GAS come to my head, thinking to buy used XE-1.The reason because XE-1 is RF style camera with AF.

Need your help to find first Fuji prime lens for this camera. I will use Leica to Fuji X adapter for Leica mount lenses as well.
Thinking to buy Fuji X 35/1,4, but i still have Voigtlander 35/1.4 so become redundant.

My favorite focal lenght 28 to 50mm .

regards

The 18/2 is a great reportage lens. It is compact and AF works well. It is not the best choice for landscapes or architecture if you are fussy about the frame edges.

The 27/2.8 is even more compact. It is agreat all-around lens. It does not have an aperture ring though. The f stop is set using the control wheel. This is an issue for some and not fir others. I think this is the best all-around lens.

The 23/1.4 is an excellent lens. It is not compact... which is it's only disadvantage. I use a third-party hood with mine. It requires a different mode of operation I'm manual focus mode.

The 56/1.2 is a bit bigger. It is a wonderful lens... period.

In my view the Fujinon XF 35/1.4 is not redundant. You don't have to mannually stop down the aperture.

Make sure your camera and XF lenses have the most curreny firmware installed.

^^ Willie says it all as I would.
The XF 35mm is a beautifully rendering lens. Any Fuji X user should own one. I would start there. Cheers!

My default lens for the xe1 is the 27 pancake. Bad is no aperture ring.. But the 40ish fov and that small camera body feels like the digital version of my Leica/Minolta CL w/ the 40f2.

The 23 and 35 are definitely the best in your 28-50 range for overall iq. The 35 is first gen and there is a rumor about a v2 version by around 2015 as an FYI that recently started to float around.

Like Andy, 35 1.4 is my first & main XF for the XE.
(But today am also packing Pen 25 2.8, 40 1.4, SLR Magic 23 1.7 for shooting downtown on 2 bodies.)

The 27 is a great all-around lens. The rendering, the sharpness, the size, and the cost! Just amazing bang for the buck!

.. :D

Another never ending debate, Silver or Black body?..I saw in Amazon for the used one the cost around $320.
Used 27/2.8 pancake , cost $300.

i highly recommend the 23 for just an all-arounder (in both fov and for low-light conditions). get that, and be amazed. it's quite magical.

I just bought black XE-1 (used) from e**y, expected next week will arrive.
As your suggestion, I will take (used) XF 35/1.4 as my first lens..how much does it cost?

I almost always use my xf 35mm on my xpro1. The only bad thing about this lens is the little motor noise (if there is a v2, i might change if it is silent)

I got black XE-1 and 35/1.4..(thanks to RFF member)

As your suggestion, I upgraded body FW to 2.3 and lens to 3.1.
Question; how to set camera to Aperture Priority?

Easy, Set the lens to the aperture you require, and the shutter speed dial to A. Set auto ISO as well if you prefer. In the past you could not set a minimum shutter speed, but now you can, making it very useful.

Thanks Ezzie, done

I think I'm getting old and need glasses, previoustly I didn't see "A" on dial..:bang:

A couple months ago I was very close to buying my first Fuji X lens for my Silver X-E1 I've had a year. I settled on the 23mm 1.4, but the prices are still too high for that one. I wanted a wide, or under normal, focal length, because I have plenty of good legacy 50mm lenses for portraits.

I ended up waiting. I'm still waiting for the prices to go down, but would get the 35/1.4 (which is cheaper) if I decide I have to have an auto focus lens. So far, I don't, and am happy with mostly Pen-F lenses.

the 56 might have taken first place...

I had the 56mm on loan from Fuji last month, and while it's a good lens (sharp wide open, good characteristics), I didn't really find anything special about it. I'm not a long lens guy though, so it might just be me. The canon 85L is leagues ahead of it though.

that canon must be a fantastic lens…
if you ever get the chance to try another sample of the 56 i would be curious to hear what you have to say.

I don't think it was a bad sample as such - it was very sharp and very uniform. I feel like it was almost overcorrected - just very very predictable and uniform in characteristic - which I'm sure a lot of people will love. I had it for 2 weeks and I think I used it for about 3 days and then it sat in the box until I had to send it back. By comparison the 85L makes you feel like you're shooting 4x5 or something - it's a crazy lens.
