The one on top of it (http://www.photohistory.ru/Pictures/Kiev-4am-wh.jpg)
I make 3 or 4 measure during an afternoon, it gives me some indications, I then evaluate if I need to over/under exposure according to the place I am. I also like to use the sunny f16 rule, it always works, you just need to slow the speed given by sunny f16 by 30% in winter

Merci
I had to learn sunny f16 with my lubitel. At first I tought sunny f16 would be difficult to learn but it is very easy , just try it, and kodak triX allow you to make some mistakes much more than Agfa APX 400 for example. So far it is the best film I have used
.
just one more thing: old light meter like the one I use are not usable inside , I think it is due to the light spectrum of artificial light wich is not as "wide" as the one of the sun. If anyone knows the exact reason I would be very pleased to read it

Sunny 16, if you take the time, works like a cham. This I discovered whilst putting a test rollt hrough a borrowed Yashicamat one lunchtime.

Hi le vrai rdu,
Would you like to participate us about how did come to select a Kiev rangefinder, where did you bought it and perhaps something about your photographic history ?
Cheers,
Ruben

I started photo last winter with the little nikon coolpix of my brother. I worked during the summer in order to buy a DSLR. In june I bought a pentax P30 film slr for 30€ because I was really fed up with my compact camera. After 2 rolls I decided that film and B&W photo was so pleasing that I bought a Contax 159 mm (a fantastic SLR ) , a scanner and darkroom equipement in september. As I like street photo I didn't felt very discret with my SLR's so I bought a Kiev 4.
Why buying a Kiev 4 ? Because the RF is more accurate than a Zorki or Fed RF and also because Kiev as more speed than any other FSU RF (and also because it is really a beautiful camera
). I bought it on ebay to a guy living in Kharkov : http://cgi.ebay.fr/Contax-III-copy-KIEV-4-USSR-camera-SERVICED-EXC-COND_W0QQitemZ120180875179QQihZ002QQcategoryZ107914QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Yes I did, while I was waiting for my Kiev I read it almost 2 or 3 time
I also downloaded the manual from "orphancameras", I was a bit scared about rewinding / changing speed. Now I am ok with that
another interseting site and a huge collection

I went to paris with my kiev and trix

The best camera is one that still works!
Wow excellent pics and great use of a simple rangefinder. I'm with Pitxu ... I'm impressed with your exposures and even in the shots that have very defined shadow areas you get it dead right. I also like your compositions a lot!

thank you keith
Tought I use sunny f16 outdoor, I am on my way to buy a ligth meter, I have too much troubles in forest, indoor and difficult conditions ( fog, forest )
I think that my exposure are okay because I use trix, I can't get this result with across 100 or HP5 (many people like HP5 but I can't get something that really please me with that film )

I shoot a lot in the local rainforests around where I live and the light really messes with my head ... I would never attempt sunny16 in these conditions because I often have a guess then check with my meter to discover I'm three stops out! Sunny16 is reasonably consistent for me everywhere else but my little VCII is insurance ... it's a great meter for reflective and incident readings off the palm of the hand!
