First rolls of E6!

Well, I finally took the plunge and ordered an E6 processing kit and ran two rolls of Fuji Velvia 100 last night.

Everything went really smooth and I think the colors turned out spot-on. A real thrill to see the 'positives' come out of the tank!

I think the hardest parts were taking the time to finish the rolls properly with interesting subjects (rather than just snapshots) and waiting for the film to dry. 🙂

Now I'm itching to get some Velvia 120 run through...but I have 3 more frames on the current roll that I have slated for some portraits.

Thanks....its the Arista E-6 kit. I'm hoping to get quite a few rolls out of this batch of chemistry. I also got the C-41 kit which I'll mix up in a week or so as I finish a few other rolls.

I will push my medium format slides 1 stop and see how that goes.

How do you keep the temperature uniform during the developing?

congrats and keep me posted on how many rolls can you do with 1L of Arista E6.

I started developing E-6 too over the weekend, 1 35mm, 1 120 and 1 220.
I think I just want to shoot 10-20 4x5 Velvia sheets then retire from E6, just so expensive and time consuming at this moment but who knows, I might change my mind later on.
planning to buy 10 rolls of Astia 220 and still have packs of 120 Provia/Velvia in the freezer

My original plan was to use a double-tub method and just add hot/cold water to get the temperature right, but I found an old laboratory heated water bath on ebay and decided to splurge. I set the temp on the dial and go load my reels and do a few other things...come back in 30 minutes and its locked in at the right temp. Really easy and convenient.

Of course, with 2 rolls done, that means between my chemistry, bottles, thermometer, water bath, etc....I'm sitting at about $100 per roll in processing cost at the moment! 🙂 Not saving any money yet!

That'll come down as I start cranking though...I figure (hope) I can get my processing costs down to $2-$3 per roll.

Used the same kit myself for 5 or 6 rolls of 120 Provia100F, kept the containers in a large picnic cooler full of the proper temp water and was nothing short of elated when I started seeing the results. But a couple of caveats, it took me close to 5 hours to finish the tasks and in the end it cost the same as the lab charged to do it. If the lab were to stop developing I'd do it again in a heart beat, 6x9 trannies are something to behold! Peter

Seeing that you are in Dallas, Texas.
I have a JOBO CPE unit that is not used since I never get into C41 development.
You are welcome to try it out and see if it's more convenient and less hassle to control your water temperature with.

As wonderful as it is to develop BW negative by themself, E6 and holding these wonderful brillant transparencies in your hand is a league of its own 🙂!

By the way, there is also the Tetenal E6 3-bath developing kit (excellent quality, very easy to handle, low price),
and the top-notch quality Fuji Hunt E6 kit.
And Italian photo chemistry manufacturer Bellini is also offering a E6 kit:

Getting your colour reversal films developed is easy.
Either use one of the excellent professional labs which offer mail order, or just do it yourself with one of these kits.
