Looking for comments and advice, first roll from RB67 processed in ID11 (Legacy Edu 100) and scanned with Epson V700. No post processing only resize/resample to fit here.
Thanks

Thanks

... likes film again.
My first thoughts were "wow, splendid". After second reading about the technical details it went to "awesome" !! It looks technically perfect and like the close distance you have chosen.

Hi Mike
I like both of them. What is the file size of a scan (35 mm frame) at the maximum quality before doing any editing?
Cheers

Thanks, maddoc, ashfaque, the scans come up about 40 MByte in size, i left all the settings in the epson software on the default, only set the Dpi to 4800 and film size to 6X7 in options. Question, has anybody used the epson software, is it any good or could i get better results with vuescan or some thing else? To me the UI is easy enough to use, but i really have to spend more time with it.
Thanks

I have a V500, 2400 is the highest I go. I like the software, I use full auto into srgb, flat tone curve (autoexposure on lowest in configuration), and futz around with the highlight input and output. I usually just set them on the same number and set as low as I can without clipping. I am a third party software for cameras and scanners nonbeliever...

Your scans look great.
ot sure if you did this or not, but some advice would be to uncheck unsharp mask and do the sharpening in photoshop or I use PK sharpener.

Thanks, Ranchu, gnuyork, Yes 2400 dpi is probably enough, someone here on the forum said (sorry can't remember who) to go with the native resolution and as far as i understand thats 4800 for the V700, but i will check this again.
I did see the "unsharp mask" button hooked as default and was wondering to leave or not, because i did not do any PP only resize in Irfanview i left it on.
Thanks again for the info. Need todo some more scanning.

Some time ago, one of the french magazines (Chasseur d'image or Réponse photo) made a comparison between an Imacon, V700 and a Nikon Coolscan. Very condensed result: the Epson is absolutely capable for medium format onwards but not so good for 35mm, the Imacon will handle both formats as best but price-wise for the most unreachable and the Nikon will be better as the Epson for 35mm.
It was hard to see a difference in these magazine prints between the Epson and the Imacon in terms of MF negatives.
(statement out of my memory.....;-) )

I set sharpening on low, it seems too soft to me on off. That's on 35mm. This is speculation, but I think the sharpening in the scanner software takes place during the interpolation from raw to output, rather than after a file is made. I think there needs to be some during that, or at least I prefer to have it. I remember something about that native resolution thing too. I'll stick with 2400, bicubic is pretty simple.

Mike: IIRC, Steve Huff did a review of it and he talked about the softwares (his model is V700). It may be worth looking (if you haven't already).
