First thoughts...EOS M

Something to be said for the canon sensors and lenses. I dont know what it is, but I much prefer the canon sensors to the sony based sensors. Somehow more natural in output.

I'd have to agree about Canon's sensors.

Also, it seems the EOS M tends to underexpose by a bit...which is no big deal for me as I shoot RAW. It's nice to shoot with what feels like a compact camera but knowing you're not going to blow out all the highlights.

Canon has such a huge piece of the market, this gives them a big advantage when it comes to sensor development, a perfect situation for their mirrorless line...

Another vote for Canon's sensor in the EOS M...

I guess you guys never saw Sony sensors behind Minolta glass: pure magic

Pictures look nice. Your daughters seem happy to pose on the first one, but she isn't too thrilled on the second one. I guess you got carried away! Have fun with your new toy

love this picture, something about how focused she is!

re the camera, a compact with f/2.0 prime for $300 sounds like a killer deal to me! irrespective of af speed, as long as it manages to focus properly (as opposed to the x-100 ;-) )

I just pulled the trigger on one of these and fotodiox leica m to eos m adapter for 299 from amazon. Cant wait to try it. will post some pics when i get it. I'm excited to use my ms optical tiara lens to m mount conversion on it. That will really be a pocket wonder for travel.

So far I like this camera. I too got it for $299. The first two things I bought were a Leica M adapter and a Canon FD adapter. I haven't really used the kit lens it came with, but I'm very satisfied with my M and FD glass on it.

How is use with m adapter? What lenses are you using it with? Any pics to share?

Thanks
Nik

Would like to hear any comments about this as well, as I have one en route in anticipation of delivery of my 22 kit.

Also, has anyone tried the EF adapter?

Okay, I'll fess up, I couldn't resist and got an EOS M. I'm a Canon DSLR shooter so it made some sense.

Leica M adapter works well. I bought a body only and have been using the CV 35/1.4. It's pretty easy to focus with the magnification button, and I haven't noticed any issues.

I got a Canon EF adapter (purported to be OEM but from Hong Kong so who knows) but I'm not sure how useful it will be because this is a small camera. Smaller than the OMD. So IMO it would only make sense to use smaller EF or EF-S lenses, big lenses would be awkward.

I tried both the Sigma 30/1.4 and EF 35/2 (the older one). It works okay but there's a noticeable stutter in the focusing process with both lenses. I'm not sure how to describe it but it achieves focus in little steps rather than just locking in to focus in a single step, but ultimately it does get into focus. I haven't tried the EF 35/1.4 because that lens is just too big, but if I have time later I'll give it a go.

Well, she showed up today. My first, very early impressions are very good. Build quailty, fit, feel are all excellent. Getting around the menus is a bit of work. I am not sure that experience will help all that much here -settings seem all over the place. I shot about 30 frames between the rain this afternoon. I am going to do a bit more indoors and then we'll see what we have!

Is there a quick way to go back to normal view without having to cycle through all the magnifications?

Oh dear! Despite my comments in another thread I pulled the trigger today on the 22mm w/flash kit from B&H. I called a local store and they told me they weren't going to get more in and that it was discontinued so I figured I better get on it.

$400, so not as good as deal as some of you got but, based on what I've seen of the lens, I figure that's about $300 for it and $100 for the camera and flash.

If I like it I'm going to get the wide zoom for an upcoming trip. Much less expensive than the NEX wide zoom.

Not that I'm aware of, but I haven't checked the manual. For now I just cycle through, which takes a couple of presses if you're at 5x magnification. It would be nice to go back to normal with a single press of something.

Congrats, IMO that's still a good deal for an APSC camera, lens, and flash. I'm liking this camera more than I expected, especially now that I have the 22mm, which works well. I like setting the focus point using the touch screen, it's faster than using a "joystick" or wheel, and it can be set anywhere, not just at preselected focus points. Just wish there were more prime lenses or at least a lens roadmap. As I mentioned before this camera is so small that using EF or EF-S lenses isn't really ideal. The 40mm EF pancake may be okay but with the adapter it becomes twice as thick.

Yes, but boy -it works well. :)

I need to make some more adjusting tests based on my early results. That said, I believe there is something special here.
