I had the new 50 1.5 C Sonnar just resting on the mount of a camera which I had then put away in the bag, kept on a shelf at chest height. Pulled that camera out and the lens fell to the hard wood floor form about neck height (I am 181cm). No external mark, filter thread is fine, lens elements look OK, focus smooth, aperture ring and blades move OK. No noise when shaken. Seems to be fine. Am I likely to have some deep injury nevertheless or is this one pretty tough lens?

I think you were damned lucky ... obviously there is no problem with the lens but I'd still be looking at the next images I shot with it very carefully! 😛

Thanks guys, you've reassured me a bit. Now that I have recovered a little, closer inspection shows that it landed on the excellent B & W chrome UV filter which is slightly pushed in at the front lip but not so much as to interfere with the smooth running of the thread or to interfere with engagement of the hood. It's nice to know where the main force was applied and that something dispensible took the brunt of it. I suspect I am going to get away with this. First time in 33 years I have let this happen. Hope it's the last. I've got some Rollei Retro 100 in the camera so I'll finish the roll with some test shots
