Dropped my M9 about 1 1/2 feet to hard ground and it scuffed the bottom plate, but all else seemed good. Then a few days later it rolled off my car seat to the carpeted foot well and that knocked the sensor loose, a condition I presume was initiated by the first drop. Leica NJ had it for a month and cost $500. My dealer wasn't surprised this happened and said the digitals need new caution.

While my klutziness is legion, I'm glad to see I'm not alone. I was amazed that the RF was still good. It's been a couple weeks now and all still seems well. Thanks for the stories.

A camera from another era, but last Summer I dropped my IIIg onto concrete from about waist level. It landed on the attached Canon 35/1.8 .

The attached filter was destroyed, but camera and lens continued to work fine.

Modern wood floors are soft, I've dropped a spoon on mine, it landed on an edge, and it dented the "White Oak".

My Oly E-M1 was bumped out of my hand, slow motion tumble, stuck out my foot to catch it, slid off my foot onto the sidewalk, minor paint scuff on the hot shoe.

Nice to know Leicas are still built like Leicas.

It is said that a Leica fell from the cockpit of a USAF fighter plane to the desert floor. It was found, was in working condition, and (I have read) is now in Leica's museum collection.

There is no doubt that they do take hard knocks.

I think this was the SL MOT that fell out of a Phantom somewhere and spent several months lying in the desert but not sure if it worked after all that. Think it may be at the Wetzlar museum, would be nice to know for sure.

I dropped my iphone and (!) my mini-pad on concrete several times and they still work. Fortunately I have never dropped my Leica(s) in 25 yrs I have been shooting with them. For cursory work you are fine. If it shuts down no worries. You might take a diff perspective if you were a photojournalist. YMMV

That would do the public image of paratroopers real harm, but if you carry a camera with you for over forty years, things tend to happen.
