Hi all
I got my Voigtlander prominent with a legendary Nokton 50/1.5 few days ago and yesterday I developed the first test roll. It shows nice bokeh as I've heared. But under a back light conditon (it wans't too harsh), I found a serious flare from the picture. Please check bellow pics carefully. Does it normal?
Back light bocked by lens shade.

Doesn't look too bad to me; just some veiling flare on the 1st shot. Many times back lighting that doesn't look that bad to the naked eye will cause noticeable flare, especially w/the old uncoated & single-coated lenses. Some of the early Noktons have a chrome bezel around the glass that increases flare. I've only seen these on eBay, etc., as all of my Noktons have the regular black bezel.

Can the Nokton be adapted to Contax or LTM by using a J-3 as a host barrel?

That is a question for Mr. Sweeny...
An LTM Prominent Nokton, now that would be something.

I have sent an email to Brian to see what he thinks.
Not all lenses can be adapted. For example, the post-war 5cm Sonnar 1.5 or 2.0 will not fit into a J-3 and J-8 barrel, respectively.

I used to have a Prominent with three different lenses - the Skoparon 35mm, 50mm f2 Opton and the 100mm (forgot its name) From memory they were all very low contrast but otherwise quite sharp and nice lenses. Certainly the build quality was nice - if a bit quirky. Some of the flare you are referring to may be a product of low contrast- or perhaps I mean the other way around!

Use a high contrast film, or improve contrast with PS. The Nokton remains an excellent lens. The Skoparon is also a sharp lens.

Brian tells me that the Nokton cannot be readily adapted to another mount since the optics cannot easily removed as in a J-3 or a Sonnar 5cm lens. The best route is to get an adapter for Prominent-Nikon and to get a Nikon camera too.

Along the same lines, but a different lens... anyone know anything about the Septon 50mm f2.0? I have line on one really cheap. Should a bother? I know this lens is for the Bessamatic, but it may be a candidate for a conversion or hybrid.

LOL... Brian has started a new trend here! Ask Brian first if it can be done or not. What is the cost of the Septon?

I had one adapted onto a 50 Summarit mount. Focused fine.

Ray: This is good to know, but this also means having to sacrifice a Summarit.

It is from a private seller here in Sydney, and he wants $40AUD. I figured that I could not go too wrong.

I see Summarits come up at KEH for $100 in UG.

This is a $150-$200 lens, so AUD40 should be a safe bet.

I am planning to get it. Once I have it, we see if we can make it work on a Leica, should be able to get it shoehorned into something so it will screw onto a M-mount body some way or another.
