I have just purchased a fed 5c and would like to fit a flashgun the fed 5c is fitted with a hot shoe but there is no cable connection and as the camera is totaly mechanical can anyone explain how the flash is fired it may seem a silly question but I would have thought there would have to be some kind of electrical current to the contact on the hot shoe but from where
thanks in advance
Doug

Fed5 series have their own hot shoe for flash, so that means no need extra cable and plugin to fire the lamp. If you have a flash lamp at hand, you will understand it immediately.

Any simple "thyristor automatic" hot shoe flash will work. There is nothing exclusive about the hotshoe and the only thing in the FED is a switch that fires the flash at the appropriate moment. You may also get a hotshoe>pc cable adapter that goes into the shoe and enables you to use a cable flash. Indeed, I submit that this is a preferred option.
