Flash for Konica Hexar AF

Leica SF20 or Vivitar 2800. Both compact. These are thirstor types, supposedly ok, but get confirm first -

I try not to use the tiny, close to the lens type of flashes, since it gives the point-and-shoot look.
I have used a nikon SB-28 in Auto mode with no propblems on the AF, but the ergonomy is not really good. The flash is too big.
Choices....

The Hexar-AF works with the HX-18 from the Hexar-RF just fine. One thing to make sure though is that in P-Mode (where you have the flash work at full power), you have the Hexer-AF re-programmed to allow maunal selection of guide number.

Details to re-program the H-AF can be found on http://photo.net/photo/hexar.html

From there on for manual selection of guide number it's:
- switch from Off to P-mode while pressing SELECT
- keep pressing SELECT and use UP/DOWN for GN selection
- when releasing SELECT, camera displays [PFl].
- switch to Off, and the selection is deleted.
- when required GN number is not available, select nearest lower number, e,g. GN24 not available, then select GN23.

Other flashes that work fine are Nikon speedlights that can be used in non-ttl mode. The flash ready signal from the SB-whatever is processed correctly by the Hexar-AF. Again, make sure that in P-mode, and the flash at fixed power, you manually select the correct guide number using the procedure above..
