Flash for leica IIIf

Hi,

I'm a little baffled by this; does the IIIf have a 3mm coaxial flash socket?

If so the simple answer is to buy an old Vivitar (say) which will have a hot shoe and 3mm plug. Many other have as well and there's dozens about at cheapo prices.

I don't think it's far from the truth to say that a lot of 30 yr. and older electronic flashes are still in use and performing well. It's just a matter of checking that the batteries needed are available easily.

Regards, David

I dont know , maybe 2,5mm or 3mm..... I will try.

Thanks for helping!

Not to offend anyone but I always thought the whole point of the Leica was that you shoot available light. But then I am old and still remember when LIFE magazine was a weekly. 🙂)
I own a IIIf. Have never used it with flash but then I only trot it out for show these days. For flash pix I used my Rollei.
I must confess that I have pretty well gone digital these days but enjoy reading this forum.

Hi,

It probably is, in that case.

In a nutshell, you either get two pins about an inch apart or else a coaxial plug; 3mm for everything except Leica M2's etc which are fatter. You can't measure it because the female is the 3mm one and will be inaccessible to measure to most of us, unless we use one of those focussing things.

So now you have an extremely wide range of flash guns that will work with it. I'll wish you luck and suggest you look for those auto ones that take 2 AA's.
