He what about a Nikon SB-24 with an SC-17 cable on a M6 TTL. I would just use a handheld meter to figure out exposure.

It has a high-voltage trigger, which means it should be fine with your M8/9, but take care to use it on other digital cameras

a leica M9 is the only digital i will ever use
